Re: Bjork - Volta
i think it's vertebrae by vertebrae that recycles the "vessel" track from drawing restraint (which i really like). i heard some 30 second clips from a dutch website pre-selling the album and it sounds very cool but i dont really know past that since... well, they were 30 seconds.

Re: Bjork - Volta
well, it sorta leaked.
it's in 128 so it's barely listenable but still there for those who just want to know what it'd sound like.

so far... it's a bit big to attack. i heard it about twice now and i think i need about 10 more times. a couple things though: antony sounds beautiful when used for bjorks music instead of for his usual sickly-sweet arrangements, and i dont know where chippendale and corsano are exactly, but they're kind of a wasted opportunity.
wanderlust is the clear standout, even if the into makes us think of bjork on a boat thinking "oooh, this make moosic!" which is pretty lulzy. declare independence is getting really interesting and rather extreme reactions from everyone, which is fun. i think i might be a fan of it because i dont think she's trying to be too ambitious about it and it's rather simple. earth intruders and innocence are top notch, and vertebrae by vertebrae is also really beautiful.

it's got a heavy aquatic theme running throughout, which is a strnage contrast to the bright colors of the artwork, but the whole album is pretty damn interesting.

Re: Bjork - Volta
well - is it at least better than Medula?

I've loooong come to terms with the fact that nothing (of hers) will ever be as good as Post was. Homogenic was more of a 'specific-time-and-place' / mood album... Vespertine was "nice" and it had some "nice" sounds and some "nice" parts... I couldn't even tell you the name of onetrack off of Medula -> I hated it THAT much

Re: Bjork - Volta
well, i guess.

i mean, i loved medulla.
and i'm not such a fan of post.

this album sounds like a cross between homogenic and drawing restraint 9, so yeah, i'd say it's pretty good on intital impression.

Re: Bjork - Volta
this album really illuminates some of Bjork's weaknesses IMO. she's really quite monochromatic as a vocalist/idol. the more esoteric, detailed, and bombastic the production, the more her singing (which almost sounds like an afterthought, like it only needs to sound like Bjork to be interesting) sounds slapped over the track like a stamp. the exceptions would be Innocence and Declare Independence i guess. Vespertine was probably the most successful at uniting her voice with interesting production. she does mesh well with Antony, but overall, her idol persona is really wearing down on me ... it's so one-dimensional.

i think she's a much better curator than a super-idol. i think my ideal Bjork album at this point would totally sublimate her voice into an accessory for bleeding-edge production, but i'm sure she's far too narcissistic to ever let the tracks speak for themselves.

Re: Bjork - Volta
i have a feeling the best thing about the new bjork album will be the remixes that come out. various production have been asked to do a mix and i'm anticipating a few other great producers to mess around with some of the stuff on Volta.

btw, i recently saw Bjork in concert and have to say i was severely underwhelmed. last time i saw her i was deeply moved. this time was just boring. she played almost all ballads with only a few uptempo classics tossed in.

Re: Bjork - Volta
got to agree with kid cue about Volta

I mean... it's a good album, but not a 'geat' album by any means

what sucks, is that this album just oozes potential as far as remixes. I could really see an album like "telegram" eclipsing this one

(edit)
what I mean is... I can see - if Bjork releases a "remix album" like Telegram for Volta, it will be much better than Volta
