Re: Hip Hop/Rap recommendations
forget about kanye -

I'm not kidding -> 7L & Esoteric's "A New Dope" is incredible.... I guess they used to be like the stereotypical "backpacker" or "granola" rappers, so they didn't get that great of reviews b/c it sounds nothing at all like that...nice electro influences, great beats and clever sampling. I kind of get the feeling that this was the album that Dj Shadow had wanted to make with "the Outsider"

also [B]Roots Manuva[/I] Awfully Deep is quite good... but it's a couple of years old now...

at least the first half of the Chrome Children compilation is good too...

Re: Hip Hop/Rap recommendations
kind of mainstream but i really liked lupe fiasco's food & liquor album released last year

the new rjd2 is ...different and not really hip-hop. haven't given it enough plays yet to decide whether i like it or not

the last roots album was pretty solid too but then what else would you expect from them

other than that i haven't picked up much new stuff either so will be checking out some of the recs

ryan - how old is that non-phixion album? i have some of their stuff from a good few years ago on my computer somewhere and really liked it..
