I got my boxset and vinyl order through Amazon Prime today here in Arizona. Love the packaging, new art work and essay.

Re: Second Toughest In The Infants Deluxe/Super Deluxe 2015
Just did a headphone listen and I am sure "they did not go back and use old midi files" to make this a master recording a masterpiece like the dubno version. Also still the annoying noise at the beginning of the songs (Confusion The Waitress / Juanita). In a remaster like this, this should have been removed?

Although I am very happy with the louder volume, compared with the Dubno it does not justify the high price.

But hé, it's Underworld right ;-)

Have to admit this is exactly how I feel about the album remaster. None of the wow moments that came with the Dubno remaster. The Super Deluxe packaging mentions that it was remastered by Miles ??? at Abbey Road. No mention of Rick at all. It certainly feels to me like your standard remaster job.

A missed opportunity I fear, but then we can't have everything. They've been touring a lot in the meantime and working on new material. Which would we rather have? Still, I think I'd have preferred them to do the full job on this album in the future rather than put it out now to meet a schedule / anniversary date.

More thoughtful review forthcoming but after just listening to it all evening in a drive through LA, the album sounds as good as it ever did. I'm not sure what the remaster achieved besides loudness and some clarity, but the Dubnobass remaster was like listening to a completely new album.

But as with the Dubnobass reissue, the artwork for STITI is dreadful. I do not understand this impulse to repackage their iconic albums in totally new artwork. They did a pretty cool thing by highlighting certain words from Savage's text and later making them the titles of pieces, but it just does not fit this record. I would love to have seen the true Dubnobass and STITI artwork in these deluxe formats. Alas.

Re: Second Toughest In The Infants Deluxe/Super Deluxe 2015
Compared to DubNoBass, it's a bit skimpy... then again, both the superdeluxe of DubNo and SecondToughest are missing *several* released tracks (Where's "Carp Dreams... Koi", "Banstyle (remix)", and "Juanita, Short Cut"?).

Musically, I've just paid for one CD of unreleased stuff and a CD of frustratingly tantalising excepts from stonking live recordings. They could've filled out the set with a double CD of just one of the shows of the several we know exist ("European Club Gig", Amsterdam, Tokyo, Leicester, Glasgow) which would have made it a 6CD set worthy of the price tag.

Also, like DNB, there's not a DVD to finally put "Kiteless" into the digital world. My VHS is knackered now.

The artwork? It's just a fancy Tomato book thats quite expensive, and no use in terms of information or anything worth a second read. The individual Tomato books ("Mmmm SKyscraper" and "Bareback") are much better.

God, but not great. Still, "Bloody 1" is GREAT. Sure they played something like it live when I saw them in the 90's.

Is there any info on the process involved in the remaster of ST or DNB? I'm a nerd and would like to read about the old technology that needed to be wrestled to get this together. Cheers

here's a brief bit:

What was it like for you and Rick to remaster the album at Abbey Road of all places?

Ah, that was Rick's job. He's fantastic at getting the sound just right. I love the way he hears things and have total faith in him when it comes to the sound of our records. It was a huge job as most of the original record was recorded on 12 track tape and a lot of the instruments had to be re-recorded because the old keyboards & samplers no longer worked. He even had to track down an old 12 track tape machine that worked in order to transfer the old master recordings—it was an extremely painful process for him by all accounts and I didn't see him for months!
