It is pretty cool!

It`s a music creation software tool for the Nintendo DS.
It has a six-track (analog synth x 2, drum machine x 4) /16-step sequencer,
effects, and a wireless communications link so you can sync it with other DS units.

It goes for around $50.

I don`t know if it`s quite ready for live "stage" applications, but it certainly is a great creative tool for laying down ideas!

You can read the more about it here:

Some clues from my n00b point of view:
- He uses speech. So he must have used samples, right? Is that possible on Korg-DS?
- It seems there are some "flaws" in the video: At the end, when Rez starts up, the controller on the left slips back up, but still the music fades out.
- Doesn't he sometimes push a button "too late", i. e., after a new track/effect starts?

Sorry, can't describe it any better, due to almost non-existent knowledge of music-making.

Can I, as ever, rely on you techy-geeks to solve this riddle?

The Korg-DS does not have any sampling capabilities to my knowledge.
What I think he`s doing, is taking the audio from the DS`s 1/8 in. headphone jacks into his sound card and
mixing the audio with the Born Slippy lyrics in an audio software program on his computer.
The audio we hear on the video is probably the monitoring output from speakers attached to the computer.
This might explain the audio latency we hear when he selects buttons as well!

It is also possible that he recorded the audio and video simultaneously on separate mediums, mixed in the BS lyrics, and then re-synced the video later!

Yeah, that would also explain why we don't hear any noises before the music starts.

Re: Youtubes
I'm almost positive the lyrics have been mixed in post. Pretty much everything else, though, you can see him triggering the loops.

He's actually pushing the buttons ahead of time. He's queuing the loop for playback on the next measure. You can see each loop he triggers begins playing when the button stops bouncing up and down on the measure break.

I think he recorded the line out from the DS (you can see the cord in the bottom right corner in the beginning of the video), mixed the vocals in post, and then added the audio to the video. But it looks like everything but the vocals were done on the DS.

Nice observation! I didn`t watch the video so closely! It`s interesting because this sort of thing is exactly what I`m working on for the next version of the "darktrain" mixer!

I do agree that the lyrics were mixed in post and the audio and video re-synced!
