Re: Underworldlive version 3.0 thread
I agree with the collective that this is quite underwhelming. Don't get me wrong, it's wonderful that Underworld have finally made some progress on this digital store, and I'm glad it looks like it will be archival.
But beginning with EPs and promo singles that are already several years old seems rather a bad idea, as fans loooooong ago gave up hope of the band making these things widely available and obtained the music illegally. I for one would have happily paid Underworld whatever they asked for new songs and remixes years ago when this stuff came out (and I will continue to hope to pay them whatever they want for new music going forwad), but they just wouldn't let me. Now, asking me to pay these prices and in these restricted formats for old music and dodgy remixes is disappointing. Let's not forget Nine Inch Nails launched a site where fans could download virtually every dodgy NIN remix for free.
Thinking about just how old the RiverRun stuff is, I find myself wondering if this is what a record company's actually good for: getting the music out there, whether on iTunes or in shops or wherever; just AVAILABLE because people actually WANT to pay for it, and they want to pay for it NOW.
Going forward, I hope we see the unreleased versions and true rarities others have mentioned offered in mp3, FLAC, Apple Lossless, and hopefully zipped for convenience's sake.
