As much as I think they would like to come over here more often, this quote from Karl in a Boston Herald interview illustrates why they tend to visit the states so infrequently.

UK electronic duo Underworld hasn’t brought its legendary live show to the United States in more than five years, but it’s certainly not because of laziness or lack of interest.

Blame simple economics.

“It’s very expensive to come to America,” explained Karl Hyde, one half of the seminal dance act. “It’s the only place we lose money. And we haven’t lost money in 20 years.”

“It’s a drag because we’ve got so many cool fans here,” Hyde said from San Francisco. “It’s kind of heartbreaking when you can’t come and play live to the people who give you daily support. But we bit the bullet this time.”

Re: Underworldlive version 3.0 thread
What, did they think just because electronic didn't go over huge, that we just got on a boat and sailed to some distant land, or dug a hole and burried our heads in the sand.

callin' out callin' out
who are you
call rang back an echo of misunderstood silence
and the people in the city
crawling under the city
riding rails of discontentend occupations
flatline yellow
a bowl of glow comes over them
scent of steam, chicken and waffles
metered parkin'
as the people arrive
band dips into the archive
can't hold back myself waiting
for the new UnderworldLIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIVVE!

'normaal' is dutch ,with a long 'aaa', means the same as in English.

It's also the name of a band from the east part of holland, singing in the local dialect.
, 1979 as opener for AC/DC

Re: Underworldlive version 3.0 thread
Anyone else misssing the old style uwlive entries where the text was written on the photos themselves?

I'm trying not to say this from an archivist perspective as someone who would save every image that was posted everyday, but I really liked the layered effect of the posts in the past.

Whether it was a photo taken by Karl on stage with his own text or from someone else's camera.

These new images while very similar to the previous incarnation of underworldlive seem to be a bit different and off at times. I understand this is something to be expected when change occurs, but I really had grown to love the text placed over an image from a camera phone in such a way that it would shape and direct the viewers eye to a point or area in the picture. The wrapping of the text, sometimes sparse, other times verbose, seemed fitting for the photo, time, and place.

I would be curious to know what others here think of the new photoblog incarnation up at the site now and even what Karl or those in the underworld crew have to say about it.

I'm sure there are many positives and negatives to the new incarnation, such ease of editing and posting.

personally i prefer the new way - i was never a fan of the text on photos method

i like to view the whole picture as taken - i especially loved the simple clouds picture yesterday...

its more professional looking now as a blog / opener page than it used to be

while it is still simple and easy to use

i like it...

change is GOOD!

Oh very true, change is good and this new incarnation seems to lend itself more to the book of jam becoming a way of cataloging and collecting all of these photos.

Re: Underworldlive version 3.0 thread
For the longest time, I didn't even know the text on the pictures were diary entries. I didn't even read them. Then I did once I realized what they were.

Re: Underworldlive version 3.0 thread
change is good, indeed. However, I preferred the old way of putting the text on the photos. It was a unique and interesting way of communicating that I enjoyed very much. Of course, the new photos are nice too.

Love that first pic on UWlive today...Has an eerie "entering the underworld" feel to it.

looks like Rick and Karl...of course when you click on it you find out it's not...
