Re: extras - tonight on bbc 2
Well, i watched it and the first 15mins weren't all that but you got a feel of the character after that. The way he influences the main female lead and gets her to drop herself in it in front of others while trying to keep his own reputation intact was quite amusing.

I liked it better than the office but then again, i thought the office wasnt all that good. best series on BBC2 got scrapped after one series. Outlaws. then after this Extras, comes the start of a second series of what is probably the worst "comedy" series ive ever seen on BBC2, the Catherine Tate show. Its barely ITV quality at best. Makes me sick.

Good thing I'm not wasting my licence fee money on it

I consider The Office to be one of the best comedy shows ever made, so I'm sure I'll at least like this one. Could be a while before it's seen over here, though.

Any Office fans out there seen the American version? I still haven't. I was kind of nonplussed by the whole idea. I've heard good things about it from people who never saw the original, but I want to hear from somebody who actually saw both before I bother to watch it.

I watched teh American version after the British.... it's ok, still has a few laughs but nowhere near as good. The pilot is a total remake of the British pilot and doesn't work nearly as well... by the end of their season though they had some decent humor going... the basketball match comes to mind. Basically, i found it a good way to get more office-esque humor, but i'd never say it's as good as the British series.

I'm sure Extras will be on Bittorrent soon. Maybe even Mininova, but it will be on uknova for sure.

yeah i caught the BB game...that was funny...but somehow i just don't see it in the same light as the UK office...i just don't get the feeling that US offices are like the unique Uk office enviroment...its trying to replicate too much of the same tension, jokes etc...

i mean there are twats like Gareth in all offices here...and people like Dawn and Tim...still the US office did have some laughs in it...but not as much as the UK version

Re: extras - tonight on bbc 2
the american office is weird, because it's so much like the original in look - takes a lot to get over that when you're used to the uk version; but they did a good job.

catherine tate is very hit and miss

outlaws was fucking funny

another great overlooked show was itv's "monkey trousers" with vic, bob, coogan... another idiot piece of scheduling from itv (it was on at 11pm) meant it really got missed. if bbc2 had had that we'd all be saying "i don't know" to any question.

as for peter kaye - much as i like his stand-up, it's wearing a bit thin really - there's only so much childhood nostalgia and observational comedy i can take after a while. his character stuff is fantastic (they're repeating "that peter kaye thing" at the moment - the brian potter one sowed the seeds of many phoenix nights running jokes) that said; max and paddy was weak (apart from the flashback to potter when he could walk)

Re: extras - tonight on bbc 2
I found the American Office really poor compared to the clear professionalism the UK original. The acting is just terrible, there is no chemustry between the leads and when you compare identical scenes such as the first between Tim and Lee vs. the American whatever their names are it's just poor. On a more shallow note: Lucy Davis while not all that was still slightly enticing to look at and a good actress, whereas the Pam character bothers me and I wqonder with her total lack of acting ability how she ever got into this project in essentially being the only female pressence.

I shant watch another episode.
