Re: Barking - The Alternative Versions (AKA CD2)
I'm looking forward very much to both cd's.

The music I choose to listen to is dependent on my mood at the time, so I'm sure that at different times, and in different moods I'll choose to listen to both different versions.

I just consider myself lucky to be given the option.

based on the samples, i predict a hybrid playlist out of this for my listening preferences. between stars and diamond jigsaw are much better on the album, but strumpet, jumping the cran, and YDS are easily going to push out their finished counterparts.
might see how mixing both hamburg versions would work out, too

Yeah, I was looking forward to that too. I suspect that live bootleg will continue to be my favourite version of Diamond Jigsaw.

Hi,
Anyway to purchase this separately? ..Looked on ITUNES today and did not see it. I am in the US..already ordered the deluxe DVD/CD ...would be another 85USD to get just CD 2..which after the youtube preview sounds sick. Bird1 sounds fantastic.

Re: Barking - The Alternative Versions (AKA CD2)
Based on the YouTube samples:

1. Sounds like a 2008 version of Strumpet
2. Version 1 from 2003, and as debuted at Electraglide
3. Studio version of the live version we all know. Also played on 2008 radio show
4. It'll be very interesting to hear this. I'd also be interested in hearing the full Barking version.
5. Sounds like it's the 2nd radio show version from 2008
6. Sounds like the 2009 studio version they did, as played at the 2009 Bestival DJ set.
7. This is very interesting. It sounds very demo-y and it might even be one of the very first versions of it, and possibly before synths were even added.
8. might be a slightly different version from what we heard in 2008?
9. The same Jumping the Cran version played in 2008 on the radio and at the ArtJam.

It's nice that they've done this for the fans. I think Between Stars will definitely be replacing the album version for me.

I hope they can satisfy a few more fans requests and maybe post online the synthy Diamond Jigsaw and many other versions of ALAF.

Re: Barking - The Alternative Versions (AKA CD2)
after hearing this, scribble gets dropped for YDS. it would be cool if someone did a mixture of the two, like an instrumental that leads into the new version. from the samples, i still prefer the album versions of everything else except 'grace', sounds just different. i might like that version better or worse, i have to wait until i hear both versions in full. diamond jigsaw sounds just like a demo, like it's incomplete.

it sounds like the only ones i really might prefer are 'you do scribble' and 'grace'.

After all my moaning about the collaborations, it turns out I'd probably agree with this actually. I like Grace on both CDs, but the Telematic Peal mix is just more... Underworld. Scribble I love the vocals, but the High Contrast stuff still pisses me off.
Oh, I think I'd probably take Hamburg Hotel Essex too, it's a bit weirder and I like that.

On the whole, the disc does sound a bit like work in progress versions, remixes, demos and such as opposed to finished tracks for a lot of it. I can imagine the versions of ALAF, Bird 1 and such being on EPs if anything. Sooooooooooo yeah. Not the Underworld version of the album some of us were expecting/hoping for, but it's still an enjoyable and interesting disc.
