Ran: Criterion Release
Just picked up the new Criterion transfer of Ran and wow, finally this masterpiece has been given some visual justice. Beyond the fantastic quality of the transfer, there is supplemental disc that contains, among other things, an assemblage of Kurosawa's paintings that he created in order to visualize the film in the ten years before he eventually produced it. Highly recommended purchase:

Re: Ran: Criterion Release
Ran was the one where he had them paint the blades of grass, right?
The first segment of Dreams is one of my favorite pieces of film in the world - the boy who witnesses the fox marriage procession. I want to write about him, from where the film ends, as he's banished from his home and sent out to ask the foxes' forgiveness...

Re: Ran: Criterion Release
I watched this film a long time ago in high school as a comparison to King Lear. My favorite parts were the truly epic battle scenes with only the sweeping symphonic score playing. I'd really like to see the movie again.
