For Halloween: A Scary Tale
For the dirty compilation, i've been reworking a track i first wrote in 2002. Involves some spooky fantasy meets autobiographical lyrics and weird hooks. Trouble is, I've got 8 new versions now to pick from for the compilation! Figured I'd release them as a free EP on my netlabel and maybe get some feedback on what works best.

Advances in Obsolete Technology:
Scary Tale EP
http://www.archive.org/details/Advan...ologyScaryTale

1. wax and wane mix
2. bacoustic mix
3. chop and paste mix
4. quitely violent 1
5. quietly violent 2
6. worried mix
7. instrumental remix
8. worn mix

In Underworld EP fashion (a la Dark and Long, Pearls Girl), while these mixes share some elements, I think they are mostly pretty different from each other, some very different.
Hope this enhances your Halloween, and please any feedback will be most appreciated as i try to get it together for Dirty 2010 compilation!

Cheers,
holden

Re: For Halloween: A Scary Tale
Nothing?
Here's your chance to play producer. I'm sort of leaning towards the "worried" mix, though aspects of "Bacoustic" and "Wax and Wane" appeal to me, too.

What should i keep or jettison for the final submission?

Re: For Halloween: A Scary Tale
I don´t wanna play producer but I made some notes in my amateur way while I was listening. I hope you don´t mind...

nr 1 like the sound of a turning squeaky tram with the melody in the background
nr 2 too much vocals
nr 3 like the change
nr 4 many sound effects and its quite captivating in the beginning but nagging lyrics
nr 5 best so far... or is it me who´s getting used to your sound
nr 6 really, skip the lyrics
nr 7 too much copy of... I don´t know
nr 1-8 some cool elements but I would really tone down or defuse/distort the vocals in general or have more highlights in the music to take over.
I would put it aside for a while and try to develop it later.

Holden, do you want mixing advice as well? I'm listening on a crappy computer speaker, so I can't give you that.

Re: For Halloween: A Scary Tale
Thanks for listening and for the comments! I'm still reworking the mix for the "Quietly Violent" compilation. Always good to hear what other people think when they hear the tunes - what works for me might not for you, vice versa.
