now. stimpee was complaining that i played a lot from the best of. i don't actually have those cds, and there are so many tracks to choose from--i reckoned that some of those boots would be fun.... he has infinitely more orbital boots than me, so i kinda had to go with what i had. i felt it necessary to play the whole ots, and also attached/semi(peel)

sorry prof

i did advertise your show on loopz and although the thread only got 2 replies, it did get 90 views despite being posted only a few hours before the show.

It was an awesome show. And it was your selection after all. The same could have been (and probably was) said about your UW Essential Show. You don't have to justify a thing, Professor. As I always say, if people don't like it there is always the off-button or, better still, they can do their own (and take the flack as and when required).

I will be listening in on Wednesday as usual.

ooh...

that could either be really good... or quite frustraiting

b/c I mean - you could really divide up their stuff into very very different categories, and each of those would be like a whole show in of themselves

like, early DM, remixes, 90's DM, 00's (including solo), bsides...

but then... I've always been more of a fan of their 90's period than anything else.

I agree. I think the good Professor should get back to his roots and start playing some new music. In fact, I think these "essentials" shouldnt be all in a row like this.

BSS is just bandwagon jumping

About Prof's Orbital show though, I enjoyed it and for the casual listener it was probably a good show but for an Orbital freak it wasnt that cutting edge. Covering 55mins of the show with 3 tracks (OTS p1/p2, semi-detached/attached, lush p1/p2) didnt really help either. Neither did only playing 3 tracks from post 1996 (Patchwork Guilt / Initiation / Style). Here ends the only real criticism I had.

BB might alway say "if people don't like it there is always the off-button or, better still, they can do their own (and take the flack as and when required)", but no BB, they cant do their own as not everyone is priveliged enough to have their own radio show and I didnt say that I didnt like it so I'm under no such obligation.

I will be happy to provide Professor with all the Orbital he needs if he wishes to do another less mainstream show though and in fact would look forward to it.

You can't please all of the people all of the time so pleasing some of them some of the time by catering to different tastes with different shows may be the answer.

i concur. ..essential shows are as useless as most best of albums.

I could push the point by posting the log from the room if you like. Moan moan moan all the way through, I seem to recall, although, granted, there was someone else doing that too. But still. It matters not now that you have apologised. Unless, of course, you have been appointed Director of Content for Dirty Radio, in which case I will bow to your superiorness.

In any event, there are dozens of listeners out there who appreciate these shows - even the Essentials (some might even say especially the Essentials) as an in depth exploration of a particular band or genre. Complaining because one doesn't like it is a little like watching a t.v. programme one doesn't like then writing in to Points Of View to say how much one hated it. If it offends turn it off! But don't keep giving people a hard time because they are not playing your own personal choice, otherwise they might just get fed up with the dissing and stop doing the shows.

And, btw, I am sure there are still plenty of slots for sessions on DR if you ask nicely.
