well, when i was buying and playing Drug Fits the Face, Next Is The E, Move and Go, i didn't think he was a self-righteous little prick. it wasn't until he started to shove his political/vegatarian philosophies down everyone's throat that he became unbearable for me. believe that was around 94.

I remember the first time I heard Go and and Next E as much as I remember Reagen getting shot and the the morn of 9/11. I can thank Moby for that alone. Expected so much more from him until his politics got in the way of his art.

Re: so, this new Moby best of...
i know i just slagged off his recent music, but to be fair, Moby seems like a nice guy to me, not arrogant, just overexposed. Remember, his career was nearly dead in 1999 ("Animal Rights", anyone? No?), and then "Play" became this unbelievable hit. Moby's always had strong opinions...it's just now he has a much larger forum for them and it can get tiring. In person, i think he comes across as caring and meek, based on what i've heard from a friend who actually met him and from lots of interviews i've seen. Maybe sometimes the words he chooses makes it seem in-yer-face.

Re: so, this new Moby best of...
well - I actually liked the fact that he released both of those bsides compilations

especially all of the extra ones on the 18 dvd... if not for the actual music, but for the fact that he let others hear the bits and pieces that became their respective albums

that is a very very rare occurence...

oh, yeah, moby's not a prick at all. he's so nice it's actually a bit disturbing. i met him last year at a record signing and accidentally stepped on his foot, he didn't even care. and he served tea and sandwiches at the record signing, and he had a table with candles set up in the back, and he would talk to you for like 10 minutes and take a picture with you.

no, man, i'd at least expect him to say 'oh, don't worry about it', but he didn't even notice. i mean, the guy serves you tea and talks to you for like 10 minutes.
