Re: Meet Up Atlanta 3/28
Hell, I wish I knew the house engineer, I'd ask him for a feed. Does anyone have any recording hardware in case this becomes a possibility? My good friend was a house engineer at a theater in Indy and he told me he'd always give someone a feed if they were cool about it. At a smaller venue, such as this, you can just walk up to the guy before the show and talk to him.

For shits and giggles, I actually e-mailed/called the local newspapers and offered to cover this show in exchange for a free press pass. I was turned down obviously, but it was worth a shot.

Underworld doesn't seem to mind cameras, so why do they play venues that are so uptight about them/not just let them in? I mean, for christ's sake guys..
When I called this venue about cameras a few weeks ago, they said it's up to the band. She said call day of show (Friday) and she'd know for sure. Whether or not they even ask the band is questionable. But she also could have just said no, so there is hope.

If cameras are allowed, I have a canon point-and-shoot that also does video w/ sound and I have a DSLR that I would consider bringing as well. Probably overkill, especially since I'd have to lug the damn thing around, but I doubt I will get another chance like this.

If you want to spot me, I'll be the guy in the front whose hands block every cool shot.

Oh, and I won't be attending the meet-up (me and my girlfriend like to do our own thing in cities), but if I spot Rick or Karl in town, I'll run over to the Dog, burst in and yell "FELLOW DIRTIES! FOLLOW ME!"

Hey, it's a definite possibility. When I went to the Chemical Brothers show in Brooklyn, we were looking for a place to eat. We passed by this one fancy restaurant, because we were in the mood for fast, greasy garbage. I only found out later that Ed Simons was eating there at that very moment

I hate when venues do this. The venues say it's up to the artists and the artists will say it's up to the venue.

I've seen a few artists in concert who I've talked to directly, in advance, that said I could bring a camera and have at it -- only to find my stuff confiscated by security after the first snap.

If you find anything out, please be sure to let us know!

Hahah, the local paper didn't know what the tape was that they were sent of Beaucoup fish when it came out! If they didnt' know then, they sure aren't going to know now...

It can also get you thrown out of the show/equipment taken away. It points you out/draws attention to you..

If I knew ahead of time for 100% certain I could get a patch and all would be cool etc, I'd have no problem..

Hopefully someone will get some audio from the show.

Have a friend go up and ask the question. If he gets the OK, hand him the equipment to get the patch. If the answer is no, your friend is under suspicion, and you're none the worse for wear, aside from now having to ditch your friend.

I think that's a bit extreme. It's not like you'd walk in with a reel to reel asking where to put it.

You walk up and ask the sound guy for a feed, he says no, then you walk away. I sincerely doubt that would get you thrown out.

My friend who is the house engineer used to do this all of the time. Usually they'd say no, but a few times they'd at least let him stand in that area and hang out with him. He knew the lingo and the equipment commonly used so that helped I am sure.
