Re: Liars, the lot of them all
these people are a dime a dozen though, and they're one of two things:
1. old, so they *must* know better 2. the same kind of music monkeys that like to talk about how the beatles were overrated. and they were, but they *love* to point out how they differ and in a world gone mad and in the wrong direction, they're the few keeping their heads on. it's one of those things where that whatever good points he has are drowned in a sea of flimsy ideas that are more personal problems than legitimate ones. like how kid a has only spurred so much contempt because of how popular it got. how it doesnt have tunes people can sing along to as if it's supposed to be the simple and noble goal of musicians everywhere. if they did something a little off is it their job to make sure it doesnt go anywhere? nice try trying to craft millions of record sold to some half-baked demographics oozing cynicysm. i'm sure you'll convince all of us that we've been faking it for years now. these are the same people who'll blast the masses for popularizing shit like american idol while calling a freak shooting star "tuneless". i cant stress enough how useless people like him are when you just look at music for what it is. their problem is a social one, and if they're talking about how creep was a fine tune in their college days they're also cantankerous and old. that self conscious jab at aging critics taking a stab at legitimising their generation with a band in their age group was a valid one. they most certainly do get shown the door. and there's yours. please try again. Re: Liars, the lot of them all
so crank ...
if I made you a birthday present, told you about how I made it, detailed the amount of painstaking work that I put into it, and then... didn't give it to you "because it was crap", then I proceeded to continually tell you about that same gift over and over again over the course of - say eight years then after all this time - I eventually give it to you, and ... it turns out I really didn't do many (if any) modifications on that gift from its original incarnation until now ...you wouldn't be at least a little ticked? or am I the only one who's just a bit annoyed at the fact that "Nude" doesn't really sound any different than it did back in 1997? |

Re: Liars, the lot of them all
I don't think Radiohead are "fooocking great" and i don't think the same thing about Underworld either. Both RH and UW have some really good music and there is also the mediocrity that has exited their vaults of imagination. But the nice stuff, the creme of the crop, when played live is done with such an incredible force behind it that it leaves crowds awed and ecstactic.
Both bands create their music in a different fashion. Both bands have a relatively different audience. However, both bands attract a great number of hardcore fans who will argue to the fringes of dyslexia in order to make their point when their band's cred is in jeopardy . Here is my take on the situation: UNDERWORLD opening for RADIOHEAD. FUCKING GREAT! Awesome...i mean, really, i close my eyes and i get a tingling sensation in my cranium and perhaps some in my crotch, no homo. I don't care what kind of people are listening to UW or RH and what kind of peple will be at the concerts...there always will be douchebags and cool cats...i just know that i'll enjoy myself coming from the fact that there will be two legends of modern music on stage.

my god, the bigotry in this thread. whatever happened to, "it's not my taste." rather than treating people like they're intellectually retarded for enjoying a particular bit of music? |

Re: Liars, the lot of them all
Well, it is true that a lot of Radiohead devotees were largely ignorant of electronic music prior to Kid A, what with that album's all but copy-and-pasting of Aphex Twin and Autechre in parts. But at the same time, a lot of those Radiohead fans became fans of electronic artists. In fact, I've had enormous luck introducing Underworld to friends who are huge Radiohead fanatics.
