Re: Phonestrap
hm...

it's funny - I LOVED the music to the original version, the vocals seemed a bit too high in the mix, like it was just sitting on top of the guitar

this second version, however - the vocals definitely fit the music

yet

I like the first version more... it's almost like there was more 'emotional investment' (or whatever you want to call it) in the first version. It had this sort of sweet-yet-melancholic vibe - while this new version, just... well - it just seems like a track. Like, it's just a song no more, no less

Re: Phonestrap
Not been able to keep up with UWLive.com or the forum for the past wee while so only got round to this. Been on repeat for the last hour... it's fantastic. The new version seems quintessential underworld somehow.

Re: Phonestrap
Version 3 is up now, and is my favourite so far! A nice ambient take on it.

Re: Phonestrap
I wonder if we're seeing their song writing process in action here? As we know from the Warner-chappell site, they can often go through 30-40 or more revisions of songs.

Interesting thought! Could be, could be.

What stark differences between the three versions, even though it's a pretty simple track, basically guitar and voice. #1 seemed like a close miked solo, #2 as a minimal electro track, now #3 has haunting echo, and could have fit in easily on any of the RiverRuns.

Thanks so much for sharing with us, boys!

Re: Fonestrap
I think this is a fascinating way to show us some insight to their writing process. Months ago there was a thread asking which songs fans wanted on an official release most, and my first thought was "all of the unreleased versions of our favorite songs." I just quoted myself. Anyway, I love this idea and hope to see more of it in the future. This is really great stuff.

Re: Fonestrap
Fonestrap2 is hypnotizing. I absolutely love it. It has the same feel as Ansum-with-beats at the opening of their live shows. This is exactly the kind of groove I like to hear before they get into their act. Wonderful.
