You know, i've been thinking about what's been said here about the Brothers maturing and maybe getting more technical/polished and less inspired. Admittedly, listening to the first two LPs, you can tell there are lots of tweaked samples and effects that give them both a very rough, energetic edge, whereas from Surrender on, the sounds have been more "programmed" and glossy (mostly). I remember an interview with Ed Simons when Surrender came out, saying they were trying to make more crafted, integrated songs rather than layering crazy samples. In this techno-savvy age, it's probably right that the boys have taken steps to use their studio toys...after all, rough, bedroom techno is fun for a while, but no one expects a big act to stay lo-tech. It's just a shame that with the new slick sound has gone some of the excitement and innovation (i.e. Push the Button was largely blahh in my opinion, and i'm not yet feeling "Do it Again".) I was hoping that We are the Night rocked in the vein of Dig Your Own Hole or the first half of Come With Us, but looks like folks aren't feeling it here. maybe it's a grower...i'll have to wait and see!

Re: new chemical brothers album and tour
I have to say I am mostly bored by this album...and I actually like Push the Button.
I like All Rights Reversed and Saturate (a cut down Electronic Battle Weapon)...but the rest is inconsequential IMHO...so far.

Re: new chemical brothers album and tour
For those in the UK, Radio 1 have been playing a different version of "Do It Again"
The vocal sample is actually different to the short promo version (does it swear on the album version and promo versions or something??). I can't actually make out what it says anyway.. It appears that half way through the track it skips back to the begginning, it sounds more exciting - i heard the version when zane lowe played it a few weeks ago - but now its on the Radio 1 'A Play List' so all the presenters are playing it... Re: new chemical brothers album and tour
Update:
I searched the lyrics sites to see what people were saying - here are a couple: I've seen it pumped electric I've seen it pumped electric I've seen it pumped electric etc. it doesn't make sense, so i don't think thats right... another one says: i'll sing the pump electric (x 8) it also doesn't make sense.. ![]() Mike |

Re: new chemical brothers album and tour
On the original promo and 'extended' mix of Do It Again he says:
"I see we've gone electric" On the final mix and myspace player he says: "Let's turn this thing electric" hope that helps. ![]() This cd has surprised me b/c it's really grown on me the more I hear it. Now I like "All Rights Reserved", "the Pills Won't Help You", and even "Battle Scars"....go figure! Great cd, you've just got to kinda play it until you know it and can hum/sing along. For instance, when the first electronic ("War of the Worlds") sound comes on in track 1, you can instantly in your head go "Theres no path to foll-oooow" even though those "vocals" slowly fade in later.

Re: new chemical brothers album and tour
if i ever like this album it means that i need to do two things:
take a breather from 2007 and start listening to all the other things i loved from previous years a LOT moe often so that i can see this album is obviously shit dig deeper in 2007 because i'm sure there's an army of albums that put this lukewarm crap to shame. but since i do both and still dont think this album is any good i think i'm ok... |

Re: new chemical brothers album and tour
I got the Japanese promo delivered today - it has 2 extra 'bonus' tracks..
No Need Has a very early dust brothers sound to start with, then a long slow driving bassline comes in, with the trademark vocal sample repeated 'theres no need to rush' at every few bars.. Lots of squeaks and funny sounds in this, almost sounds as though they should get the Scissor Sisters to sing over this one ![]() Nice track! 8 points. Seal Boing, bling, bang, boring, b-side. It difficult to explain, it is mellow, and has the usual airy high pitched vocals that most of the ambient tracks have. It has a nice soft cultural drum beat throughout, i would inmaging i would hear this in one of them crystal and incence stick shops. Not sure i will be playing this one much. 5 points.Mike |

Re: new chemical brothers album and tour
Oh yeah,
I caught the Chemical Brothers on BBC Three at Glastonbury.. You can download the .WMV video here [55mb] Do It Again was amazing, the visuals were fantastic and, quite frankly, i don't care about the technical crap, or if its rehearsed, improvised or not - they put on a fantastic theatre when they play live - it just gets better and better... In fact, since Underworld stopped using the Tomato visual screens back in 1999 / 2000, i prefer the whole look of the Chemcial Brothers shows - they have created create a huge sense of atmosphere and energy..
