Totp R.i.p.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/5099894.stm
it had to happen at some time, seems like no one wants to watch faux live performances by crappy pop bands any more... it seems the MTV generation has at last killed the longest running Music TV Show.... still over the years there have been some memorable performances: New Order (Baywatch), KLF (as ice creams), Cameo (Red Cod Piece), Milli Vanilli, Pans People, Legs & Co, Noel Edmunds, Happy Mondays, and so many others...it was best for me in the early 1980's with bands like the Eurythmics, Wham, FGTH & PSB's all regularly appearing... shame to see it go, although i never watched it in the past few years, because of the pop charts being what they are...

Re: Totp R.i.p.
Yeah, I had a little moment of nostalgia when I read about this yesterday. So many TOTP memories from when I was a little kid - the Christmas and New Year specials on in the background while we ate our lunch, the excitement of all the new glam rock bands when i was just getting into my teens. Drooling over the Bay City Rollers.
![]() I dunno whether it is cos I am OLD, but I stopped watching it a few years ago now, so I can't really say that I will miss it as such. Just miss the idea of it being there really.

Re: Totp R.i.p.
I guess this means the end of the Dutch TOTP as well, seeing as that show just bought all the 'live performances' of the UK TOTP and edited between them shots of the Dutch host announcing the next artist in front of a replica of the stage including a crowd that goes crazy...

Re: Totp R.i.p.
the writing was on the wall when 'the charts' suddenly stopped being the definitive charts. suddenly you had so many competing charts, that number 1 wasn't such a thing. then you had the move away from the line-up being dependant on being actually IN the charts. and then it got moved from thursday nights. then they stopped writing proper songs and you couldn't tell the girls from the boys...
