Well, in the novel by H. G. Wells, the aliens did succumb to the common cold.

Re: Wotw...
I was surprised at how much I liked this movie. It's the best thing Spielberg's done in years, for sure. It managed to be truly disturbing without a lot of cheap scares... it's a better horror movie than most horror movies.

Not the best film of the year, for sure, but it's quite a ride. It's true that the characters are forgettable, but in a way I thought that made the aliens more interesting.

Re: Wotw...
I thought it was pretty good. Yeah, the ending was a bit rushed, but I totally loved the way the alien ships looked. And the sound was awesome. I love how they used the old ray gun sound for the alien ships ray guns.

One thing I didn't like, and this is a somewhat of a spoiler, is that there seems to have been a scene cut out when Tom Cruises son tell's him he is going to meet him in Boston. When Cruise was telling Robbins about how his son was going to meet him in Boston, I thought it was because he was delusional and trying to cope with the fact that he just saw his son get napalmed. Then when you see the son at the end, I was like WTF? I thought it was kind of a lame Spielberg everyone lives happily ever after type of crap ending.

Other than that, I liked it more than I thought I would.

Re: Wotw...
That bugged me too, but it's far from the worst tacked-on happy ending I've endured from Spielberg. I don't know what madness drives him to do these things. I think he's just a cowardly storyteller.

Re: Wotw...
Don't read on if you don't know how it ends...

... but the ending is rushed. It could have been really tense if there were more scenes dealing with the demise of the invaders, and how the characters wouldn't be sure if that was really happening - sneaking about not knowing whether they were in danger or not. That's got to be better than <cough> <cough> <splat> <whoopee>.

Re: Wotw...
the ending was very rushed...I've never read the book but I think the ending could have been somewhat improved from the original...why not some sort of blood based infection seeing as though thats what the aliens seemed to be after?

Re: Wotw...
I absolutely loved WOTW, but i can see if it ain't everybody's cup of tea.

People had a problem with the ending, but from what i've understood it's quite faithful to the Wells' book.
