Marvin Gaye - Whats Goin On?

One of the finest albums ever made. I picked up the Deluxe edition which has a truckload of extra stuff and the remaster sounds great (i have the original CD issue - maybe I should give it away to someone who needs it!). This is Gaye at his best, before he started with all the "lets get it on" and "sexual healing" stuff which while soulful is borderline cheese if youre not in the mood and can only take you so far. This album is different. It was political but groovy, soulful, funky, and above all catchy. You find yourself whistling, singing all the songs to yourself for days. In their largest poll ever, the NME declared this their number one album of the 70s, and not for nothing.

I've just found this comprehensive review which will probably make you want to buy the thing :-) Smokey Robinson said that What’s Going On is not only his favorite album of all time, but it’s the greatest album of all time, and its certainly one of my favourite albums though if you put it on your ipod you might eventually annoy people around you by singing along!
