Closer - Joy Division

It was shameful how many bands tried to imitate the tension, nervousness, anxiety, discomfort and depression of Joy Division. Most of them just ended up sounding like miserablist wankers. And this is coming from a guy who's into the miserablist wanking and the melodramatic aspect of eighties music, so in a strange way that's really saying something good about Joy Division.
Anyone read the new Paul Morley essay collection on them called "Piece by Piece"? Just picked it up but haven't dug in just yet.
