Installation piece
Ok, so the Friday before last - I was a part of this "Intermedia Open House"

Intermedia is a class I'm taking in addition to this entrepreneurship program, so I don't go insane from the business classes... basically, we kinda get free reign on what we do - but some specific projects, like a video, sound design, etc etc

So, the Open House exhibit was basically our final and I decided to do an installation piece.

and I turned this room ->

Into this ->

Sorry - it's so dark
and those two squares you can see are two monitors playing two different video loops that were ~30 seconds each. Along the left side of the room I set up two sets of speakers that played a 20minute loop of different ambient songs I made for the piece... I also mixed the tracks together (so it's basically a 20minute ambient dj set) along the right side of the room I set up another set of speakers which played a different 20-24 minute loop of voice recordings I had made (and some excerpts from television shows and movies) I also off-set the start points of the loops and overlap with that iTunes crossfade deal, so that as time progressed they'd become a bit more offset

Ok -
this first link SHOULD be the ambient tracks I did, but they're cut from that 20min set... so they don't have any of the field recordings I did (save for a couple towards the end) -> as all the field recordings were on the third set of speakers

change the "XX" to "tt"

the second link is a 're-edit' I did of the two video loops... I just put them side-by-side on one screen, and because they were originally just ~30 seconds each I added some new footage to the one with the television static and tried to clean up the looping on the one on the right - so it wasn't quite as obvious. Also - the audio is basically the ending of the ambient set with a few of my field recordings... although - b/c it's the end of the set, it's not exactly the most "complex" assortment of my field recordings / found sounds... I didn't fuck around with them as much in this section, as I really like some parts of the ambient stuff in this part

oh, and I should say - all the walls, floor and ceiling were concrete, and I angled the speakers so that the audio would bounce around. The light was put there towards the back of the room, b/c that was the best place where you could hear the sort of "ocean of sound" coming from the different sets of speakers... and there was this nice sense of 'depth'... also - it was the best way to present the title and artist info (piece of paper was put underneath the worklight)

(edit)
let me know what you think... as this was the first time I've ever done an installation piece, and the first time I've ever done anything on Final Cut

(edit)
oh, and I should say - the video stuff really isn't supposed to be something you sit down and actively watch - it was more as a component of the entire room, know what I mean? Like - even the way they were oriented in the room itself
