There was a thread in the UW forum here about this at the time.
One nice thing was that last weekend the BBC scheduled the pilot for The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency, which was the last thing Anthony Minghella directed. I don't know if they had already planned it, or whether they brought it forward in deference to him, as the series itself is not due to be aired until 2009.
