Re: Turn Back the clock
This article was on the Grauniad website today - really kind of puts things into perspective :

A smart man inquired, "Do you know there's a person under your train?" I looked at the blood on the windscreen momentarily before assuring him that, yes, I was aware. He paused for a heartbeat, looked at his watch and said, "So, how long before we get on the move again?"

Very interesting. And I have mixed feelings about the quote you selected with the commuter asking "so, how long before we get on the move again?" On the one hand, it's a cold and inappropriate thing to say, but on the other, due to personal experiences, I have deep disdain for anyone who chooses to end their own life in a way that will knowingly affect others so badly. In that sense, I almost want to applaud the flippant attitude the commuter had. Why should great consideration be showered on the man who committed suicide when he showed none for the driver of the train that he actually looked in the eye as he purposely involved him in his own traumatic death. I find actions like Henrik's to be the pinnacle of selfishness...or at least in that neighborhood.

Re: Turn Back the clock
it has to be a little funny when someones grisly suicide is staring you in the face and all you can think about is timetables. its so absurd and disconnected.

on the other side of seans view, it also seems just as strange to ask the suicidal to be considerate twoards others. "i mean... if youre gonna do it anyway... can it please be elsewhere so i dont have to see it? thaaaaaaaanks"

oh man imagine how disorienting that would be. hahahaha.

Totally agreed. That's why I have mixed feelings about it. I think I mainly focus on the side I did because, as I mentioned, I've had personal experiences with a person who's unsuccessful suicide attempts were used in an intentionally selfish way. Luckily, it seems like she's gotten her life together though, so that's a much happier ending than this story has....
