Re: RIP Luciano Pavarotti
I must confess to crying my eyes out in the bath this morning as Radio 4 played Nessun Dorma in tribute to this great man.
I think he achieved something marvellous, which was the "popularisation" of opera. He was a very human, down-to-earth person who didn't take himself too seriously, and people were attracted to that "ordinary bloke" aspect of his personality. It was a stroke of genius to have Pavarotti, Domingo and Carrera sing at the closing ceremony of the Rome World Cup in 1990, because it brought opera to thousands, maybe even millions, of people who otherwise would never have considered listening to it, and made Pavarotti in particular into a household name, at least here in the UK. He will be sorely missed, but he has left us with a beautiful legacy.

Re: RIP Luciano Pavarotti
Not really a fan at all, but a great man who did wonders for his musical field.
I'll always remember when we bought our gran tickets to see him play live when it was her 79th birthday!
