Jazz
I was wondering if there was any dirts that are into Jazz at all? I'm a total beginner - like I wouldn't even know Jazz if it bit my arse.

I really want to get in to and see if I dig it, so I was hoping for some recommendations? Nothing too underground, something I can talk about without sounding like a prat heh

Any help would be great.

Re: Jazz
The albums I was going to suggest have already been suggested so here are a few others:

Miles Davis - Bitches Brew (mainly for Spanish Key)

some jazz alternatives that got me started:
Saint Germain - Boulevard
Saint Germain - Tourist
Dzihan & Kamien - Gran Riserva

that's about it, I'm also new to jazz

Re: Jazz
I'm really into some John Zorn stuff but his work is all over the place; don't pick something up without hearing it first. I really like some of his Masada work; I've got a track I'll throw you later but as far as I'm concerned it's the bomb.

Re: Jazz
I've been collecting Jazz records for a couple of years now. It's always hard to know where to start find the real gems but I'd say that the best place for anyone to start (and finnish) is John Coltrane. Somehow his music bridges avante garde / free jazz with accessibility. It is so powerful and so sincere that it will blow you away. Jazz cannot do more than Coltrane did.

I can write some specific recommendations here later when I have time.

Also, if you want to discover lots of great Jazz (Coltrane and beyond) listen to my dirtyradio show, Genrelization, Tuesdays at 3pm PST!! (I should be back next week).

Re: Jazz
By the way, the Zorn/Masada track I really like, I would love some help identifying it, so if anyone is familiar with his work, let me know and I'll send the track your way, too...(it's unfortunately unlabeled).
