Darren Price - "Under the Flightpath" LP
Just lucked into this at the record shop, it's Darren's debut record of original productions from 1998, and it's just lovely! Lush and layered techno, mostly...and parallels with STITI-era Underworld can be heard (at least to me!)

Anyone else have this? I'd only heard his remixes and the lil improv snippets from the past year or so he's been live mixing with Underworld. It's great to hear what Pricey's capable of on his own, his talent obviously a big reason he's affiliated with UW

i have this and indeed a couple of his other works...it is indeed very nice influential techno sound... he has been spinning the fruits of his labours for a while, well a while ago...

if you like the stuff he spins then you should generally like his output...

i'll dig out what i have... i think i have Lose No Time, The Attic and Under the flightpath as well as all as Centuras, Cooler Kings and Cliff Hanger

but check his list here:

http://www.discogs.com/artist/Darren+Price

and do check the other works, as Centuras, the Cooler Kings (most recently on Junior Boys Own)

i'm a bit with dubman on this one, although i wouldn't say it's complete rubbish. it's listenable, but it is not more than mediocre it lacks some sort of 'edge', if you know what i mean....

Re: Darren Price - "Under the Flightpath" LP
i have to agree with Eikman and dubman here. i've tried on several occasions to like this CD. when it was released i previewed it, hated it. i've downloaded a couple cuts that i thought were decent enough, but as Eik says, they lacked an undefinable 'edge' that would make me want to hear them again. since he's joined Underworld, i've picked up his disc in a used shop and given it a good listen, trying hard to like it this time since he's connected with the UW boys. still nothing doing. i'd say take a pass on this LP and start picking up his new singles for JBO.

Fair enough... i can hear where you guys are coming from...it's nothing hard edge or really even adventurous, just nice, well-produced techno. Lots of pads, some strong drum patterns, a bit of nostalgia!
i'll have to check out his later works...if they're in the vein of stuff like "Moroccan Meatballs" or "Hard Vibe", i think i'll like it a lot!

p.s. in the same purchase at the record store, i picked up Atomic Babies' "Breuklin Heightz"...now THAT was a disappointment. Totally boring, zero variation, let's put two loops together and let it run for 5 minutes. At least i only spent $2.98 on it!

his new one, Fizheuer Zieheuer, is fucking awful

i liked achso and i love ichso, but this new single-track, 40-minute 'epic' thing he's going after is completly ridiculous

the EP on Perlon is good though. What Are Friends Good For or whatever? plus his remix of The Sinner In Me by Depeche Mode is triptacular.
