get a belt drive. those are usually more affordable. in fact audio technica created a turntable that you can connect directly to a system to record from...like converting LP to mp3's. or..if you want something that's LIKE a technics 1200 without the hassle of finding a tuner with phono jacks (there arent much of those out there anyway) get the audio technica AT-PL120..its like 180 or so..looks just like the real thing..it ain't..but at least it has the phono amplifier built in the turntable..so all you have to do is hook it up to wherever your speakers are hooked up to.

Re: WTB Turntable
Yeah man, thanks a lot Ed. That could really save me the trouble of bying an amp for the time being. The main reason I want the turntable is to buy metal and techno releases that are only available on vinyl. Collecting vinyl is just cooler than collecting mp3's. Also I would like to have some of my favorite albums on vinyl as the cover artwork and so on is so much cooler on vinyl. Besides I am also attracted to the more "dirtier" sound of vinly, I still remember when I was a kid and we still used vinyl records at home.
Anyways I don't want to DJ, I just want to buy vinyl and be able to listen to it
