Re: DJ Shadow - The Outsider
yes... yes I can. I actually was just listening to it today, prompted by hearing an streaming radio interview. It's funny how nowadays - it's almost "the cool thing" to say that you liked back then... regardless of your original opinions about the album

sure - there are some flaws in the album, but still - it has some incredible moments of brilliance (or maybe just luck?)

it definitely says a lot about UNKLE when you notice how much of that album was featured in "In Tune & On Time" which, essentially was a Dj Shadow greatest hits release (even though it was a live recording)

I can, and did, just yesterday. I've been on an UNKLE kick the past few days listening to some old mixes and just listened to psyence fiction. Some of the samples throught still make me smile too.

Like the sample of Francis Coppolla from the documentary Heart of Darkness:A filmmakers Apocalypse on the making of Apocalyspe Now.

so i'm the only one who thinks that despite its incredible patchiness, it's a much more exciting offer than 'the private press'?

Re: DJ Shadow - The Outsider
the tragic thing about this album is that it involves a true innovator chasing trends rather than his heart...

yea...

I actually didn't think Private Press was that great. I never listen to that album. The only tracks that really stood out for me were Six Days and Walkie Talkie

sure, Blood On The Motorway was a good track... but it really felt like it was missing something (and it sounded like it was a Rabbit in your Headlights retread)... I only actually really like the version from "In Tune..." which uses the strings from "Celestial Annihlation" and parts of "Rabbit in Your Headlights"

actually - I'd take any of the live versions from that album over any of the studio versions

Re: DJ Shadow - The Outsider
perhaps i should bust out the UNKLE disc again then, but the thought of hearing it now, puts me off. i loved that disc on release, played it a bazillion times, then haven't put it on since...probably 99? it's been ages since i've heard it. anyway, i'll relisten on the wise advice of Joethelion and others. Will report back.
