Deadwood
I've been riveted to my seat watching this great programme. Set in the western mining town of Deadwood in the goldrush of the 19th century its a no holds barred series that really packs a punch. The characters feature people loosely based on people that really lived there such as Wild Bill Hickock and Calamity Jane.
Now onto the 3rd (and unfortunately) final series with each episode being 24hrs and there being 12 episodes per series, a lot happens in one day. The 4th series was shortened to 6 episodes which didnt go down well at all with the writer who then preferred two 2 hour specials that cover a lot more time. Its certainly more realistic than any other western series or movie ive ever seen and its great. In the UK unfortunately, Sky have bought the rights and it hasnt yet reached terrestrial channels. Anyone else watching this? HBO Page Wiki (although im upto speed with the latest episodes im trying not to give spoilers...)

Re: Deadwood
Thanks for not spoilering.. I'm almost done with season one and have two ready to go right afterwards. It's very realistic, almost to the point of boring at times, which is why I love it.
Half of every episode involves the characters of the show staring out of their windows to see who's waking around outside or trying to find out what the latest gossip is (just like real life)! Who knew that gritty cowboys of the 1800's used to do the same thing! There are also alot of funerals.. getting kinda sick of the funerals in Deadwood, but that happens when alot of people die. ;(

Re: Deadwood
ya. it is so brilliANT! i have only watched the first season though. i didn't even think of talking about it on here, as i have enough friends ands tuff that are also into it that i don't have a void to talk about it or anything.
anyhow. best TV show ever (damn, that's a hard call, more of best made for tv movie series, as it isn't no sitcom) |

Re: Deadwood
five'd... this show is awesome. i love every episode and find that i can re-watch them really easily... the language is so thick... I went on a jag and watched all of seasons 1 and 2 the weekend before season 3 started and it's pretty amazing to see the whole picture laid out like that. it's almost a completely different show the second time you watch it... catching every little glance and nuance that's put in to foreshadow what you don't know will happen the first go-around.
sad that it's ending... but this season seems to be heading to... well... the end of the world

Re: Deadwood
Yet another good HBO series to add to the list. I'm slow on the uptake and haven't dug into season two yet, though I have the xvids sitting on a DVD in my computer at the moment.
Might have to do a weekend binge of Deadwood. |
