Re: Finally: Dirty Summer Compilation.
Nice, just downloaded. Woulda been nice if the tagging and file labelling was better so that i knew which track was which or if there was an .m3u playlist but as im listening to them all at once anyhow its not that much of a big thing. it is FREE ELECTRONICA MUSIC after all.

Re: Finally: Dirty Summer Compilation.
Really enjoying this too. And without sounding patronising, really really surprised at the excellent quality of the choons. I won't list my favourites so as not to give offence, but really some wonderful stuff in there. Thanks for the hard work, guys

Re: Finally: Dirty Summer Compilation.
Ok, I'll review every song in order as how I like to listen to them:
Avid - Glow In The Dark Very nice opening synth. the fact that the synth is phased actually gives me the feeling of something glowing in the dark. The dark "humming" is just beautiful. I like how the drums are building up in the first part of the song, where I hear the hi-hats taking the lead, so to speak. Which makes a good rhythm. And the bleeps and blops are the light bulps in this dark song, but it really fits and doesn't bore me. Great song! Sputnikk - Cool Water Temple First time I heard this, I was hooked already. The beat is nice and relaxing, and the "playful" hi-hats make it a nice rhythm. Somehow I feel that the melodies and sounds used are very "recognizable", as if I have heard them all before. But I don't think I have, it just has a really nice familiar sound, I don't know. The vocal samples and the bellsounding melody is nice. But I gotta say, that leading synth that appears later in the song, and goes on and on, is fantastic!!!!!! It's very easily to listen to, but definately not cheesy. Very well done! Exile Cartel - A Year In The Waiting Again, a great song. A nice rhythm. And very nice and warm sounds that fit together really well. Piano sounds with it. Hmmmm. One point of critique: As I use Reason myself, I asume you use Reason too. And I can hear that clearly in the drums. Maybe if you had modified the drumsamples more, and make it a more unique sound, that would be great ![]() Normally I really don't like it when people use drumsamples and don't modify them, but this song is great, so I don't mind it. Solar Polar - Aerobic Sensation Very nice. Minimal and dark. The way I like it The beat is nice and those little squeeky things make it interesting. As soon as I heard those diva-ish vocals come in, I thought "oh no, not a song with diva vocals and lyrics", because I hate that cheesy shite. But it doesn't get cheesy because it's drained in echo, nice effect! It's cool how this song kinda grew on me. When I first heard it, I heard a beat and the vocals, but later my attention gets drawn to those other low sounds. The Viirus - Kata (For Human And Drumcomputer) This is my favourite of the moment. It took some time for me to get into it, but man! The constant repeating, weird sound... it's just weird. I like the unique style of this. At first listens I didn't notice a build up, but then, at 2:03 in the song, it gets a really nice... Adrenaline kinda thing. The visuals in my head listening to this song are the insides of a body swinging back and forth. Nice and experimental. Hmmm. The next song in my playlist is my own song, but I'm not reviewing that. Marshall Watson - An Evolution Of Sorts The synth heard in the beginning reminds me of your song "I Love You Neckface", which is a really cool song. But this is something different, and really gives me a summer feeling, because of those Boards Of Canada-like synths. Or Star Guitar by Chemical Brothers. something like that. Anyway, the overall vibe of the song is just lovely. And I like the beat and the blips and blops in it. Polyester & Freshchuckdaily - Whatever You Do (Grandbrother Does Something Mix) Nice and funky. The cheerful vocals combined with the kinda dark vibe of the song, make it an interesting mix. That's how I interpret this anyway. That bassline has a neat melody, which I keep humming. The Wankfoot Soundsystem - Police And Thieves When I saw the title, I thought, YAY, that's a classic. The song itself is nice. But it takes a lot to like the vocals. The vision of you being drunk REALLY helps. It's a funny vision. But the dubby sounds and all are good. Emmet - My Mission Is This This is something totally different from all the songs in this comp. It's kind of a "simple" dance track, but it has that party thing to it. And I like that. It's just wicked in a " " kinda way. In the last part of the song the beat goes on for quite a while, which gives me almost the same feeling as Dark Train and Cowgirl give me. Adrenaline.Sr. Cranks - Your Time Is Now Ok, this is kinda oldskool and thus I needed some time to get into this. The acid sounds are really really nice though. The beat is good too, reminds me of a song by Luke Slater on Wireless. Nice ![]() PhaseBlue - HAL TEST MSTR HI (is this the right title?) Nice and long. I like the whole vibe of the song because of the nice sounding synth. The part at around 5:30 is just beautiful! |
