what UW song should i play at a college semi-formal?!?
Heyall.. I'm gonna be providing some grooves to the 'mcmaster society for theatre and film and the performing arts semi formal and drammies' event that's comin' up. I get to do it cause i'd do it for free. And I want to do it, because i think my taste in music is better than everyone else's
![]() I'm trying to lean more toward generally palattable stuff because these will be folks that often don't hear good music and if they dance it's to top 40. so i want to provide them with a good primer on 'real' dance music, but not scare them the fuck away right off the bat (and 10 minute tracks might not go over super well either hehe). so i gotta think what is the best UW track to play.. i'll be probably doing this from a computer which precludes much real mixing either.. so i dunno. suggestions? (feel free to suggest stuff other than UW too.. but i wanna have at least one track by 'em!) |

If it needs to be kept around the 5-6 minute mark, then I say Jumbo. It's strong lyrically as well as musically. Plus everyone loves Jumbo, and if they don't, they should.
![]() Failing that, the single edit of Pearls Girl clocks in at 4:24, and would kick their top-40 loving ass all over the dancefloor. Last edited by Bargo; 03-26-2006 at 11:38 PM. |

Born Slippy .NUXX (4:20 edit)
![]() or what about... Kittens!!! Two Months Off Born Slippy original and if you want to scare them off choose Dogman Go Woof or Luetin.

Re: what UW song should i play at a college semi-formal?!?
For slow groovin', how about "Sola Sistem"? Maybe even "Ballet Lane" or "Twist" could work...open their musical minds!
Of course, for dancefloor mayhem, maybe edits/remixes of "King of Snake", "TMO" or even "Moaner"... Some non-UW dance tracks that may excite? its a fact that people respond to the hits, so these aren't very creative, but they won't scare people off the floor, in fact they usually cause riot-like dancing: "Superstyling" or "I See You Baby (Fatboy Slim mix)" by Groove Armada "Praise You" or "rockafella skank" by Fatboy Slim (drop the edit of "Rockafella", because in my experience, people can't handle the tempo change and acid squelches in the middle of the LP version!) "Go" or "Bodyrock" by Moby "Block Rockin' beats", "Hey Boy, Hey Girl" or "Setting Sun" by Chemical Brothers All good tracks, though maybe overplayed, but you gotta start somewhere!

Mmmmmmmoooanerrrrrrrr! Last track, of course.
While you're at it, put in Rez/Cowgirl somewhere, maybe for starters (the Bootleg Babies version) and at the end. Ah, wait, there's Moaner already. Zut! Ok, make it two endings. Simple as that! Kittens won't harm either (I'm talking about the song here). |
