Spank Rock - YoYoYoYoYo
This is the album of the year - no contest. Nothing will come out post Feb that will top it.
There's my money on the table. ![]() Inventive, ecletic hip-hop/dance hybrid masquerading as sleezy, low-budge Baltimore sex-fueled rap album. Don't let the rhymes fool you - this fucking rules. Might be a little difficult to find right now so tune into Dirtyradio - I've put four or five tracks in the queue. The new music of 2006 is already better than the entirety of the output of 2005 - this is making my week. Last edited by Scott Warner; 02-11-2006 at 09:25 AM. |

Re: Spank Rock - YoYoYoYoYo
i have had a few listens so far and have not been too thrilled at all. there are some really great songs right in the middle of the albumn but that is all i have gotten so far. i mean it is good, but i think saying that this one albumn is better than everything from last year is a bit of a stretch. i'll have some more listens though cause i might get into it a bit more, definatly not too accessable, gotta get into their style a bit for most songs

Re: Spank Rock - YoYoYoYoYo
The production value of this album is head & shoulders above other B-More Club music I heard last year. I had a big smile listening to Spank Rock’s nods to the past.
The New Edition shout to “Ronnie, Bobby, Ricky & Mike” on ‘Rick Rubin’ ‘Coke And Wet’ drew immediate comparisons for me of early Eazy E. ‘Screwville USA’, a tribute to Houston’s DJ Screw and a terrific way to close out the album. Keep an eye on Amanda Blank in 2006. She steals the track ‘Bump’ “I ride like Kelly Bundy yo, I keep that sh*t nasty” ‘Sweet Talk’ & ‘Top Billin’ From Far Left’ are great lo-fi bass, club tracks. I can’t recall an instance of a recent hip hop release with this much originality. Anyone who struggled with the ‘Galvanize?!’ ‘hip hop’ thread on this board needs to hear this album. I’d wager that no hip hop release in 2006 will top ‘YoYoYoYoYo’

Re: Spank Rock - YoYoYoYoYo
i am definatly getting into this a bit more as i listen to it up, but it is still a little hit and miss on a few songs... most of the songs crip talks about are my favs too: BUMP is seriously the best song ever made in hip hop! it is fucking amazing. so sexy and so simple... a fucking drum kit and a synth and two wickid mc's...
anyhow. definatly a grower for some at least |
