Indy 4 - seems like a bad idea?
ok simple debate... is Indy 4 a good idea. personally as a fan of the first three i'm not sure that making this movie now is a good thing.... don't get me wrong - i'll be going to see it when its out, but i really don't think making this one is a good idea... whaddayouthink?

Re: Indy 4 - seems like a bad idea?
Like you, I'll go see it, definitely. No doubting it's a good idea commercially, but I voted no because I can't help but think this will be lame when compared with the others, which were almost perfect for their time.

I don't quite see how it can be recreated and appeal to today's audiences (those for whom Indy was before their time) while retaining enough magic for those of us who enjoyed it first time round.

Hopefully I'll be proved wrong, and the script really will be that good, Ford really is still capable of being an action lead, and this isn't going to be another Lucas vanity (/equity) project.

Something's telling me yes.

http://www.cnn.com/2007/SHOWBIZ/Movi....ap/index.html

I mean, no it's not a bad idea.

big screen is this a trick question or what? The title says one thing and your poll question shows the opposite!

my overall problem with this, and the following movies (listed) is that they are bleeding the franchise dry, and ruining the whole memory of the originals, Films such as Die Hard (4), Terminator 3 (& 4?), Rocky Bilbao, Rambo (4) etc... they don't need to be made. They usually aren't very good and mainly they bugger up the DVD box sets i already have...

everyone knows that there going to be 7 harry potter movies, so (i hope) no more will be made, everyone knows that pirates of the caribbnean is a trilogy... and i'd be the same if in ten years they trotted out another one...

So why come back 10 years or more after the original and try and act like you're 35-40 when your 55-60 in a role that was best remembered nostalgically in the 1980's or 1990's - thats where Indy stays and should be remembered

i'll probably see / buy on dvd die hard 4, indy 4 etc,. but know i won't be as happy because no matter what, they will get compared to the 'originals' and get slated regardless - you can't relive old magic (look at Star Wars and the Old and New Trilogies... they still don't really match up...)

Its like going out now with your mates from your youth - it's not the same as going out with your mates when you were 18 (i'm 35), you can't relive those days, and making movies like this again, is the same - stop reliving the past and move forward...

there is no doubt Speilberg and Lucas know how to make Indy movies, but this long after the last one seems desperate to me. Surely Spielberg at least is a decent enough film maker to go out and produce something similar or as good but not call it indy 4... and George L should go to script writing school before he unleashes his Star Wars TV Series upon us....

still i know i'll be suckered in... but just don't want to be...

and you know why the main reason this movie is being made... merchandising....!!! imagine how many indy figures they will shift

... $peilberg & Luca$ eh?

Re: Indy 4 - seems like a bad idea?
I think that Die Hard 4 is going to be good because they continued the age and story of the characters in it, and this is what Bruce Willis has been talking about. I think that this is interesting and will make it stand apart.

However, on Indy 4 are they doing this or are they going to have it be only a few years after the last one? I thought it would be cool if Indy was now involved in the Cold War or something like that. Basically, just go 18 years after the Last Crusade and show us what Indy is up to.

well its supposed to be set in the 1950's which is perhaps 12-17 years after the when the Last Crusade was set (i.e 1938)... so its kinda a bit later on, Ford is 65 (in July).. Indian Jones was aged 41 then...

so he'll be a 65 year old playing a 50+ year old, i suppose...

according to the Indy website and various soruces, Indiana Jones was Born in 1899, making him 51 in 1950...

so with a bit of make up magic, it could be believable... its not like Indy is ever portrayed as a muscle bound hunk, he's always well beaten and worn out even though he usually wins through in all the fights he has...

anyway some more links:

the main Indy site: http://www.theraider.net/

and something i'm delighted about: http://www.theraider.net/news/fullst...ise.php?id=224

I am very leery about this because of one David Koepp. I haven't been that impressed with his writing skills and he's been Spielberg's personal monkey for some years now.
