WTB Turntable
I really got the bug of buying a turntable, not to DJ or anything but just a turntable to play records. Also I have a shitty stereo that is taking space in my room so if I can get some sort of system that has turntable + cd player + speakers and that has good quality sound it would be great. Anyone has any recomendations, because when it comes to sound systems I have no idea which ones are good or which ones suck. I would like to get the best quality I can afford.

Re: WTB Turntable
The Walker Proscenium is a pretty good turntable.

Re: WTB Turntable
for 1000 i think you'll be a bit tight to get a good system with everything, but it's probably possible. stay away from bose in the states as they are over-priced for good speakers. i have axiom speakers (and in fact am trading them for my dad's hr864's!!!!), and they are quite high quality and about 400 for the pair.... but i'd say if you up your budget a bit more you can get speakers, cd player(although you can use a dvd player too if it's in the same room), a intergrated amp, and a turntable and they'd all be the low-end of high end stuff... there are great companies out there that aren't pioneer, harmon kardon etc, so i'd say going to a local a/v store that isn't best-buy esque would teach you a lot... (then maybe buying off amazon.com?)

Re: WTB Turntable
Well I can pay over $1000 for the whole thing, I just cannot pay over $1000 just for a turntable. I know I can't aford the best quality out there, but I just want to make sure I won't buy some PoS that is all ghetto and terrible :P
Yeah ,I guess I have to find a store around here. I just have no clue what to look for or even what I need for a sound system as I am only familiar with the big brands that of course don't even manufacture turntables anymore. |

Re: WTB Turntable
purchase a used Technics 1200. they last forever. purchase a decent receiver, that has appx 200watts per channel. purchase set of nice speakers.
alternately, purchase powered monitors and a 2/3 channel Dj mixer. purchase cd player. hook up cd player, turntable and television/dvd/etc device to mixer and use powered monitors. both systems can be had for less than 1K. |
