FYI - Werner Herzog profile in the New Yorker
In the current issue of the New Yorker(April 24, 2006) there is a decent sized profile on Werner Herzog and some intimate details of the recent shooting of his new film Rescue Dawn starring Christian Bale and Steve Zahn. Unfortunately the New Yorker website was nice enough to omit this profile from the online edition of the magazine.
I'm not sure how much longer this issue is out on the newstands but it's definently worth a read if you're a fan of Mr. Herzog. Not necessarily a lot of new info, but the reporter had full access to the man during the shoot of Rescue Dawn and there is lots of candid moments detailed involved Herzog bristling up against a mainstream Hollywood crew. For example, the Asst. Director is trying to get second unit shots (inserts and coverage for editing later) and Herzog blatantly walks in front of the camera during shots ruining the takes as he deems them unnecessary and a waste of time for the production. If anyone is interested, I can scan the article later this weekend/early next week when I'm back at work and put the 8-9 pages of text and the large black and white photo of Werner somewhere online. |
