Gnarls Barkley - St. Elsewhere
anyone got this yet?

i guess everybody has heard their history-making single "crazy" now, but the album keeps up to the promises. i can't say i was too excited about cee-lo's solo album, but i really like his voice on this one, and the danger mouse production (love it or hate it) fits cee-lo's singing and rapping like a glove.

the album is a light, fun and soulful affair, and also (or especially) the short songs ("feng shui", "boogie monster") are great. my favourite so far has to be "smiley faces"...such a great tune for spring

the worries and fears become your friends....and they end up smiling at you

Re: Gnarls Barkley - St. Elsewhere
i got attatched to crazy eventually, and because i didn't hear it anywhere else, i could pretend that it was still mine
(i live in a cowtown, remember?)

anyway the album's... good. like 3/5 good. dangermouse makes good tunes, but i never heard him make anything above a good tune. so it's 14 songs, mostly good, some not so much, that cee-lo either plays along with or makes it better... like go go gadget gospel. that guy worked hard to make a great track out of cheap 45-not-33-lol music.
i'm using that word a lot on purpose, because that what it is.
unfortunately "good" albums have a shelf-life of about 4 months before i totally forget about them, so i hope that the copy i burned for my gf will get her to go buy it.

Heh, well ok... I mean, the single gets hyped like FUCK but I really don't see what's so good about it. Ok, it's not a bad song, but come on! Maybe I should check out the album and it might change my mind, I don't know.

Re: Gnarls Barkley - St. Elsewhere
it's just ....fun. it has a cheap beat and some weird guy singing over it. the reasons why a song gets hyped are often not understandable. but hype doesn't necessarily mean that a song is bad.

Re: Gnarls Barkley - St. Elsewhere
I've had two "demo's" from the album since January, and I got really excited to hear the album, which I still haven't gotten my hands on yet

I did however, score Crazy on 12" ...unfortunately, neither of the two songs I had were on that record, which really didn't grab me at all. I listened to the tracks once, then everytime I'd put it on again, I'd find myself switching to another song

but...

this makes me wonder if these two 'demo's' were legitimately Gnarls Barkley... or even on the album. neither one of the songs had a title, but they definitely were Cee-lo's vocals. and it was believeable for this site to have Dangermouse demo stuff, as I had also gotten "Sofa King" a looong time before the DangerDoom album... although that version was really the Madlib mix (I think)

one track starts off with the line "basically I'm complicated, I have a hard time taking the easy way"

the other starts with "all I want is your understanding, [...] small light/life of affection, why is this my life? is every one's question, and I tried everything but suicide"

both tracks were absolutely incredible... so if anyone happens to know if they're on the album...
