_some_more_underworld_fanmixes_
ok,
as a reverse-birthday gift.....as of yesterday..

i dug up a whole bunch of old cd's, with underworld
stuff on them..

anybody know where this came from?

underworld - mmm skyscraper (necros mix) 6:00

is it a fan mix, or a dj mix?

[link]http://www.megaupload.com/?d=Y8ZLGOIO

check it out, its not that radically different,
but still sounds pretty decent (quality wise that is)...

more to come....

Re: _some_more_underworld_fanmixes_
I believe this was originally a screamtracker composition in S3M format from around about 1995. Composed by arranging a selection of samples. A bit like building blocks. It makes for a great remix and this is how most fanmade remixes used to be done back in the day.

...

I've just dug out the original S3M file (it plays in Winamp so thankfully I didnt have to install Screamtracker or CapaMOD). The info on the song says "originally remixed by necros/fm" and that the song contains samples from massive attack, snap, nitzer ebb and soundwave (maybe renegade soundwave?)"

it says to contact necros@axs.net and it was 21 september 1995 when he made it.

The S3M file sounds exactly the same as the mp3 you provided but I can upload that too if you like.

Thanks Raj, i'd completely forgotten about this mix. Skyscraper mixes are few and far between.

Re: _some_more_underworld_fanmixes_
The people in the mod scene can be extremely bitchy tho.

I found a page with a shedload of Necros stuff as well as some more of the collaborations with fm who did the skyscraper mix. The skyscraper mix is also there in s3m for your listening pleasure. Here's the page.

I listened to Shadow Of The Mind and Isotoxin and theyre not bad at all especially considering their age.

BTW, the Necros/fm mix was originally featured on the fan mixes page at dirty (at least according to this cache).

Re: _some_more_underworld_fanmixes_
dang, my search skills are pretty lame...

i didn't find out half of that stuff...anyways,
thanks for all the news...i like that list of
fan mixes, it had a lot of cool ones on there..

is there a site that still has them, i don't want
to re-upload them, if they're already out there..

Negative -1, thanks for sharing this! As of 2002 or whenever i discovered dirty.org, the necros remix wasn't available for DL. i had a couple listens, and it's not bad! Like you said, not drastically different from the original. Lots of effects, though, and it's enjoyable.

Re: UW remixes, i'd made 9 or 10 and had uploaded the lot to a megasharer-type site a while ago, but i'm sure the link is dead. if we could re-host fan remixes somewhere, that'd be cool, because many were very well done. (although there is a risk that Cisco records would steal the mp3s, stamp out a 12" and sell it for $27USD )

From the "in case anyone's interested" files..

Necros (Andrew Sega) changed his name and went "pro", under the guise of Alpha Conspiracy.

http://www.alphaconspiray.com

His first album "Cipher" is quite good. Back in the day he was generally regarded as one of the best in the mod scene.

Re: _some_more_underworld_fanmixes_
ok, here's another one..

i don't really like bruce lee at all, even the
mixes weren't that great...some of the live
versions were ok..

anyways, avid, did a mix of it, that is
actually pretty good... i really like it,
and the tempo is much more livelier than
the slow paced original...for those that
like the original, it still retains most of
those elements in it..
