https://www.sydneyoperahouse.com/cin...-fan-screening
After blowing away crowds at three sold out Concert Hall's earlier this year, relive the magic at this free premiere screening of Underworld at Vivid LIVE 2024. Featuring classic tracks from across their catalogue and never before seen behind the scenes footage, this new concert film showcases why this iconic duo have stood the test of time over the past four decades. Relive the three sold out performances at Vivid LIVE 2024 In the world of electronic dance music, Underworld need no introduction. Since their earliest days on the underground pop scene of the 1980s, Welsh duo Karl Hyde and Rick Smith have gone on to be one of techno?s defining acts, moving from pioneering electro-rock albums like 1988?s Underneath the Radar to their iconic ?90s records dubnobasswithmyheadman, Second Toughest in the Infants and Beaucoup Fish, and their unforgettable party anthem ?Born Slippy (NUXX)?. After scoring the 2012 London Olympics the duo have continued to release blistering albums that push the boundaries of techno, from 2016?s acclaimed, Grammy-nominated Barbara, Barbara, We See a Shining Future to their recent multimedia series DRIFT, which was accompanied by sold-out performances around the world. Underworld returned in May 2024 for their third visit to Sydney Opera House as part of Vivid LIVE. Shot over three nights in the Concert Hall, and directed by Dave May and Pat Rohl of Tall Story Films, this new concert film captures one of the most talked-about shows of the season. Whether you witnessed the euphoria in person or missed out on tickets, relive the magic at this exclusive premiere screening. The total duration of this film is 45 minutes. |

I received a response from the director. The film will be available on the Sydney Opera House YouTube at some point in the future. The 45 minute length was dictated by the band.

Great news, but... odd? Wonder why was requested to be that short, especially given they were often playing two different full shows on many nights this past tour. Would be nice to have a document of that awesome run.

Re: Underworld at Sydney Opera House concert film/documentary
Probably because they want people to come see the shows in person. There have been a fair few full shows broadcast (streaming or, like, BBC broadcast) since EE, but those have always been ephemeral. For sanctioned performances permanently on YouTube (like Electronic Beats, KCRW, Berlin Festival, etc.), those have been, like, 5 songs at most.

Re: Underworld at Sydney Opera House concert film/documentary
while technically good.
it was basically undeworld live 101 - a brief introduction tracklist was basically any show in the late 90s without the improv --- never noticed rick singing on dark train, i always tune out that song... weird.. and yes, karl and rick are aging, aren't we all.. even the crowd looks older.. everything everything is still the one to beat, and needs a re-release update.. later || | || | ne gative 1 |

Re: Underworld at Sydney Opera House concert film/documentary
Really lovely to see the closeness between Rick and Karl, especially as we know it hasn't always been like that.
Also, we might talk about aging, but how many people in the second half of their 60s are doing that? I always find it inspiring seeing how much creativity and energy they still have. No, it's not the astonishing improvised jams of their 90s, or even 00s, gigs, and I miss that too, but it's still great to see, and the occasional moments that differ from the studio versions are lovely - I enjoyed the second half of NUXX a lot. |
