Drift Ep. 2, Part 2 - Molehill
Is out.

Not what i was expecting. feel very "normal"

Drift, Ep 2, Pt. 2: Mole Hill

Following last week’s Drift release (the hypnotic, small hours techno of Appleshine), Molehill is something of an unexpected gear change. A gleaming cascade of piano, guitar and wordless choral voices, based on a live recording Rick and Karl made together at their Essex studio. Molehill is a gorgeous spiral of a song to truly loose yourself inside.

Molehill is accompanied by a new film by Simon Taylor of Tomato, watch it below.

Meant to call it part 2. OH well.

upon further reflection it feels more like an interlude.

I'm not totally sure how I feel about the new one.

Maybe it'll make more sense in the context of the EP once the other songs come out (like 'Low Between Zebras')

It also kind of reminds me of New Order's "Avalanche"

Okay. Aimless, a bit generic, boring, not much to get excited or care about. The last minute sounds lovely though.

fast forwarded on my first listen, "hmm, still a lot of this." Stopped and played final minute straight thru.

not feeling this much, if at all. if they took that last minute and developed that instead of these tacky dramatic stabs and humming, it might've been something great. maybe contextually it'll bridge a theme nicely? roll on next week.

Love it. Took me a 2nd listen to really get a feel. Though this is totally different. It reminds me of the Progrock albums I heard in my childhood (which must have been made late 70s, early 80s), like an intermezzo between heavy, long, progressive Trax. Because of this it felt like twice as long as I would imagine, but the more I listen the more it’s just right.
Have to listen together with Appleshine. I can imagine it fits.

Side note: my first thought was this sounds somewhat unfinished, but hearing it 3 times now, I do not think so anymore.

I also kind of got that vibe. It did suggest a certain 70's progrock band I admire, and also that this will link beautifully with it's eventual adjacent tracks. On its own, not my favorite thing UW has done, but I like the unexpected stylings and get the sense this will grow on me in context, as was mentioned above.

oh yeah? which one?

I thought this was lovely, probably the least "Underworld" style track they've done in a while. Well outside of "A Very Silent Way" I guess.

very lovely and uplifting this one is. the last minute especially is reminiscent of the quieter moments on A Hundred Days Off, like Ess Gee or Ballet Lane. i'm really curious as to what this'll segue into once the full episode releases.
