Royksopp: Junior
Coming March 3 and 29th, 2009, Royksopp's collab-heavy 3rd LP, "Junior"
Here's the lead-off single "Happy Up Here" stream:

Darned if it doesn't sound like Air circa "Talkie Walkie". Still some recognizeable Royksopp blips, but certainly more , uh, "happy" than the prior records. The album art looks cheese-tastic,

reminiscent of Beck's "Midnite Vultures" inner art to me.

I really like it. The beat is very Eple-like, but good. And I like the vibe of the track. Don't know if I'm going to like the album if all the tracks sound like this, but we'll see.

Re: Royksopp: Junior
it does sound a bit cheesy, but so did some of their earlier work. not too shabby, this one.

Re: Royksopp: Junior
Just downloaded and played a few times this weekend...
as other reviews have said, it does neatly cover both their cheeky pop side and darker, analog techno sound.
A bit too many guest vocalists and mid-tempo synthpop for my taste (e.g. I much prefer Melody A.M. and the harder instrumentals on Understanding), but it's still enjoyable.
It's just, well, we know they're capable of more than the polished pop.

I seem to have the same problem with Royksopp that I do with Chemical Brothers, in that I find their work that doesn't feature guest vocalists vastly more interesting than the stuff that does. If both bands just stuck to instrumentals I'd like them a lot more.. and that's pretty much the same thoughts I had when listening to this for the first time.

Well, all the vocalists are heavy hitters - Robyn, Lykke Li and thingy from The Knive.

Re: Royksopp: Junior
i agree with bargo, even with spank rock the chem bros get on my nerves when they collaborate. singers are like crutches to them.

Re: Royksopp: Junior
don't like it.

suprisingly, karin dreijer andersson (of the knife fame) provides one of the better performances. and i used to hate the knife.
