Manual
I discovered this artist via Ulrich Schnauss's Myspace page, and I've gotta say that I'm amazed at what this guy is doing. It's not original, he's doing the shoegaze/ambient/trip-hop thing that many other artists of late have been tapping into, but the beauty and transcendentalism of his melodies are completely unrivaled. He has absolutely the most beautiful guitar textures heard since Slowdive, and the electronic work is complex and crafty, with alot of nice little tricks in there to create soundscapes that warp and shimmer without end. I recommend checking out Miraparque and Blue Shibuya Dream from his Myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/jonasmunk

If music was a map to a place on earth, I would sell everything I have to move to these places.

Re: Manual
Sounds Like: Big shimmering waves chrashing on sandy shores, soft breezes blowing through wondrous summer nights, glittering stars in endless black skies...

Awesome.

He's made a mix of influences:

1. Puressence: I suppose
2. Lycia: Pray
3. Type O Negative: Burnt Flowers Fallen
4. Cocteau Twins: Ella Megalast Burls Forever
5. Lush: Nothing Natural
6. Japan: Burning Bridges
7. Durutti Column
8. Freescha: Slo-Peeq
9. Simple Minds: Shake off the Ghosts
10. The Cure: The Same Deep Water as You
11. Bowery Electric: Fear of Flying
12: Auburn Lull: Seaforth
13. David Sylvian: Sunlight Seen Through Towering Trees

Fear of Flying is one of my all time favorite songs.

Re: Manual
Yeah, those descriptions pretty much nail what he's doing. I also listened to that mix, or at least the songs I hadn't heard from there and you can definitely hear the influence but you can also see where he's expanding on those ideas and pushing the ideas forward. Absolutely brilliant.

Re: Manual
Why do they call it a mix? It's a compilation of tracks.

Anyway, I love most of the tracks and I'm surprised that I already knew a lot of them. And indeed Fear Of Flying is great.

Re: Manual
nice post. i've dug manual for quite some time now. you might be into marsen jules if you like manual. not quite as epic, but really beautiful. also, the dead texan and stars of the lid might interest you, but they are a bit more minimal, but also really beautiful.

i'm downloading that zip now. thanks for linky.
