Annoying - Duel disc technology
Bought Massive Attacks Collected album to get the rarer stuff and for all the videos, though its a fucking annoying process. DVD works fine, but its the CD that causes all the problems. Out of all the CD's players i've got theres only one which will work with it, and thats not that the one on my PC where i can convert it on to iTunes. I've now got the fun task of trying to download all the tracks on it and try and find them in half decent quality.

Boo.

yep - this technology does indeed suck, i had the same problem with the Massive Attack CD and also Michael Jackson's visionary singles, which are great but are

a) fairly expensive because of the technology £4,99 each, and

b) only seem to work in my HiFi and not on my PC's, so i'm gonna have to copy to another CD and then save to itunes...arrrrgh...

i think to be honest its a gimmic that won't last too long, and in all eventualities will make any products worth a bit more in the future, a bit like 3" cd singles...

Indeed... I didn't get this Massive Attack, yet, but with a mac (G4 with OSX 10.4) I never had any problem with any of these copy control & new technologies s**t to convert a cd to iTunes... (don't really know why actually... maybe because of these things are mainly done for PCs)

Re: Annoying - Duel disc technology
have you tried playing the CD, through a dvd-rom drive?

you can try ripping the tracks from that instead
of through the cd-rom..

there's a program called dvd audio extractor here:
http://www.castudio.org/dvdaudioextractor/

that can extract cd-audio, and also audio and
downmix surround tracks -> stereo

give it a try, its got a free trial period..

excellent software..

from the web (i dont touch that POS itunes)

To convert an aiff or wav file into an MP3 file:

You can also use iTunes to convert audio files on your hard disk from AIFF or WAV format to the MP3 format.
Under the Source menu on your iTunes window, select Library.
Drag the audio file into the song list window. It will be copied there. Click on the filename once to highlight it.
From the Advanced menu, choose Convert to MP3 (or Convert Selection to MP3).
By default, the MP3s are saved in the Macintosh HD>Users>Current User indicated by the 'house' icon >Music> iTunes>iTunes Music folder.

Re: Annoying - Duel disc technology
I dont play audio on my mac. Ive got a PC for that. Ive got a KVM switch and the speakers are set up on my PC so I download all my music with that. But on the offchance that I am playin stuff on my Mac I use Whamb, and before that good old MacAmp Lite X. For video, VLC does the job. On OS9 i used Audion for some reason but never used it when i made the switch to X.
