met an uw bloke in slc, punk[6 CDs]
i went to the virgin mega store in slc. I thought it would be bigger since theres only 15 or so in the country.
i went to the elctronica section which was farely large, and saw their underworld section, i laughed they had the 2 every store has (Anthology and 100 days off) and beaucoup fish i really wanted to get their back to mine there. they had back to mine albums scattered throughout the section, so they did carry them. I went to the cashier with 4 albums i was buying: Brian Eno - Apollo Leftfield - Leftism Blur - greatest hits The Chemical Brothers - Push The Button while i was checking them, i asked if he would check if the back to mine was in stock. he says: "im a pretty big underworld fan, and i check their section alot for new stuff, but im sure we dont have it" My first instinct is hes BSing, but i dont call it, yet He tells me if i get another CD that is on sale for $10, i get the 6th one free. I grab Air - Moon Safari Bob Dylan - greatest hits When im checking out this time, i asked him, when did you first get into underworld? about 1990 Oh, so do you have any faviorite albums from them? No, not since Darren left, i think he was the one that did it all for uw, when he left he took the band with him i was appaled, took my CDs, and left... |

Re: met an uw bloke in slc, punk[6 CDs]
Well despite his discrepancy of being a fan since 1990 and then saying Darren took the band with him......
I'd have to say that Underworld doesn't seem nearly as "wooftah dooftah" since Darren left. While I don't think he had as much creative input, I think his presence helped steer things towards a direction i much prefer. Not to say Underworld isn't still putting out quality, its just not.... as dope. IMO. But it may not even be Darren, I'm feeling the same way about most dance music put out these days.... Is it me? Is it dance music? Can you really know for sure? Is there a God? Why are we here? Ooooh....my navel is mighty interesting......... |

Re: met an uw bloke in slc, punk[6 CDs]
I wish that Emerson had put out a studio album. When he left, in spite of R&K trying to downplay the impact AHDO was the equivalency of a boxer being staggered. But without a studio album from him it's hard to substantiate what he did because whereas R&K seem to be credible people, there's always two sides to every story...

best dylan compilation is the 1985 "Biograph" set, 3 discs full of hits and rarities. for the beginner, however, i would recommend the "essential bob dylan" set on columbia records from 2000.

Re: met an uw bloke in slc, punk[6 CDs]
you know what...
it really annoys me when people say that Darren did everything, especially as it means that they've never looked at the credits on the albums, especially dubno and some of their early releases darren is only given part credit on "Surfboy" off the entire album, and is only partially credited on a few different releases (like I think he had input on like... telematic, but not .NUXX or the original mix off the first born slippy single), up until the point where everything was just listed as 'written / produced by Underworld' and included all three names and yea - I'll give him that some of Darren's tunes nowadays are quite good, but also a good portion of them sound like (at best) UW improv's or 'dumbed down' UW tracks... "Saturday Night" for example |
