jarhead. oooorah.
Anyone else see this film yet?

I wasn't terribly impressed or moved. At it's best the film made me anticipate the upcoming release here in the states of Syriana.

It had some great moments, but nothing special. Didn't move me either.

All of the filmmaking elements seemed to be there to tell a great story, but I think it was the story itself that didn't do anything.

Re: jarhead. oooorah.
agreed!

visually great... some pretty great acting... just no direction or message. almost like it was trying to figure out what it wanted to say.

i wasn't bored with it at ay point - largely due to the visuals - but at the end i found myself thinking "what was the point?"

cheers,
c

There was some criticism I read in reviews regarding Mendes having to work with a new cinematographer as Conrad Hall is no longer amongst the living.

I thought Roger Deakins work was simply stunning. In particular there were two money shots of the magic hour illuminating some soldiers and then some night shots near the end of the film that were amazing.

A good movie, not a great one. I actually saw it with a friend who was recently in the Army and did a tour in Iraq, and afterward I asked him if he thought its depiction of military life was accurate, and he said yes, though "it was about the Marine Corps, which is a lot worse."

Either this was a mistake. Or Sam Mendes did it on purpose. Likesay, you ask what was the point of the movie? But he did it on purpose to question, What was the point of the war?
