In an article that I have just came to read on dirty.org http://www.dirty.org/underworld/articles-uw.php?id=40 (in french), I could read that darren never took part in the compostion of the first two albums, it could do that only during the composition of beaucoup fish In this same article, Rick said "..Especially not the production always was of Rick, like 98% of the grooves out of the 3 albums of the trio...''
In the end of the interview you can read this ''... normal when it is known that it was invited to take part in the composition of the tracks only on Beaucoup Fish, the last album in date...''
Really i understood nothing, it's true what I have just read.. ?

Sounds to me like something was lost/added in the translation. I've noticed before that translations from other languages to English sometimes make the boys sound cranky, when it seems from voice interviews, they were pretty much pals.

i think you're talking about this part:

which means something like this:

"there are rumours that financial disputes were the reason for DE to leave. this is understandable if one knows that he was not invited to take part in the composition of BFs titles, the latest album up to date.

so, it'd mean just the opposit of what you "read"
french native speakers: excuse my poor translation - but i guess it's better then googles

No one (save for R&K + Darren) really knows what really went on in the studio in the composition of their three albums and all those EPs / singles

but there have been little bits and clues that can give you an idea of how it all went, like:

• Darren is only credited on Surfboy on Dubno... and I believe isn't credited on all the dubno era tracks either (but not sure) - after that point, pretty much everything was just credited as UW (w/ all three names)
• there've been stories that during BF - darren rarely (if ever) shared a studio with Rick
• even though the aforementioned note is true - Darren's also said that that album was the one with the most of his influence... and at least a sample or partial drum loop (maybe more - not sure) that he created during STITI period later became Bruce Lee

it's all just very weird if you ask me... they started off with a symbiotic relationship - Darren would road test UW tracks (which is true) and Rick would return the favor by making Darren more familiar with a studio set-up, giving him tips, etc (which is also true) -> I get the feeling all those "Steppin Razor" remixes were the early fruits of their labor

then things went down from there

I just wonder how much actual 'work' Darren did in the studio. I get the feeling that he really wasn't 'there in the studio' with Rick on a majority of tracks - but was given credits, as he definitely helped them out a lot in the early days (esp with confidence) and as a part of the live outfit - and just by what I've read and seen, I also get the feeling that the two of them are very passive-agressive, you know?

and Karl... well, I think he was just kinda caught in the middle

Yes, the only two tracks Darren is credited on in Dubno are "Surfboy" and "Skyscraper I Love You". The rest of the album is all Hyde/Smith (check your cds)

I've always thought that was why Darren left, because he sort of felt...useless. I think he sort of felt, "hey, they can do this on their own, I'm going to find something else to work on".

Esle this, i'm sure that the majority of sounds in the 3 albums was from rick, he was always been a great producer.

Imagine where would be UW without DE now, I still think that DE improved the sound in the early 90`.

I read an article about how when Karl and Rick first met Darren, he told them their sound was rubbish. In that aspect, I think he helped them out quite a bit, sort of how a coach yells at you and tells you "get your head out of your ass and get back in the game!"

I love darren emerson, he 's a great dj and he does a wonderfull remixes, everybody who loves underworld, must appreciate to darren'work

I have any doubt that darren helpped them, he gives them something new, but we must search again and again in the history of the ban, to know many thing that it's now unknown for us.

Really i read 2 times in 2 differents magazines, that Darren produce with them only during the BF album, i will not say that this is true or false, but i must search to have the truth, and to have an official history about my favorite band.
