new order - movement
oh dear...

this is majestic. i've always liked the tracks on substance, but i always found the actual album tracks to be abnormally suck-ful compared to the singles, especially 'power, corruption, and lies' which, minus 'blue monday' and 'age of consent' has got to be an awful album. i mean "our love is like the flowers, the rain, the sea and the hours"? it's reprehensible. on the other hand, 'low life' is pretty good, especially with tracks like 'elegia' and 'sub-culture'. 'brotherhood' and especially 'technique' i find utterly boring. so i figured when i picked up the new remaster of 'movement' it would be more suckage. boy, i was wrong. this is their best actual album out there by far. emotionally powerful and deep, mesmerizing... wow.

Firstly, yes i agree Movement is a great album.

Secondly, I strongly disagree with you about Technique. As I'm sure the majority of people here will too.

Thirdly, Bernards lyrics havent exactly put him in line to be the next Poet Laureat but they do the job most of the time. You should listen to his B-sides lyrics if you want to hear some lazy bad stuff.

But lastly, the reissue bonus disc is a bit lazy containing tracks "remastered" from vinyl, Mesh and Cries & Whispers mislabelled AGAIN, and no new liner notes at all. As an album though I think its great, considering their singer had just committed suicide. Its far less electronic than the other albums released during the 80s.

I look forward to the day when they can finally reissue these records without fucking up royally.

New Order is fucking classic straight through. From Ceremony to Guit Is A Useless Emotion. They are majestic, they are embarrassing, they are gods, they are children. If you don't like one of their albums, you haven't heard it enough.
