Steely Dan: Reelin In The Years!!!
Yesterday`s Underworld Live Diary Link: Not to get too nostalgic (and I know I`m preaching to some of the choir), but Karl knows his shit!
"Reelin In The Years", "Do It Again", "Rikki Don't Lose That Number"; Steely Dan = REAL TALENT! I grew up on Led Zeppelin, Boston, Fleetwood Mac, Steely Dan, Chicago, etc.. Even a cheesy love ballad band like Air Supply, who I do like, wrote, AND PLAYED, their own shit! Of course, there are several exceptions, but what has happened to music today?

Re: Steely Dan: Reelin In The Years!!!
Sorry for the above rant! I get a bit overzealous by Karl`s diary links sometimes - he, he!
![]() I know this is getting a bit off [Underworld] topic, but there is a good documentary about how mainstream music is going to hell and how the record companies are stifling creativity. Some may have seen it, but it`s called Before the Music Dies: http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...umentary&hl=en Of course Underworld is on a completely different planet with regards to this, since they threw off the corporate shackles long ago!

Re: Steely Dan: Reelin In The Years!!!
Reeling in the years has been the theme tune to an extremely successful and brilliant TV series by RTE (The national public television station in Ireland) of the same name, which shows the main events of each year fromt he 50's to the present day using only the songs that were on the charts that year as the sound track. Thus steely Dan's song would be quite familiar to a lot of Irish people who have flicked onto the show...
... his voice reminds me a little of Phil Lynott too... and until i took the time to check i would have thought it was Thin Lizzy who wrote the song. Great stuff |

Re: Steely Dan: Reelin In The Years!!!
i'm a big danFan also..
i've seen them twice in the last several years (considering they took a 20 year break), not counting the very cool Donald Fagen solo albums.. josie / peg / hey 19 /fm are all favorites of mine .. some of their 'newer' stuff is cool also, 'jack of speed'.. Hey 19, is especially pertinent, considering the situations i find myself in a lot lately!!!! [the lower age limit of girls i've been meeting].. thanks for the reminder phaseblue, i think we grew up in the same era, i still listen to all those groups also.. be seeing you +1 |
