Saul Williams, Trent Reznor and Alan Moulder
another attempt to destroy the major labels. available for free or for an amount you choose to pay. they've included FLAC as an option. check it out.

http://niggytardust.com/saulwilliams/menu

"It is my greatest honor to present to you The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of NiggyTardust!,
my new album produced by Trent Reznor and mixed by Alan Moulder. The wall of sound that we've created is tagged with such graffiti that a passerby would seek out doors and ways to ENTER. Once inside a world defined by dreams come true they'd find aligned with the simplest act of sharing what we treasure. Most people aren't aware of the world of art and commerce where exploitation strips each artist down to nigger. Each label, like apartheid, multiplies us by our divide and whips us 'til we conform to lesser figures. What falls between the cracks is a pile of records stacked to the heights of talents hidden from the sun. Yet the energy they put into popularizing smut makes a star of a shiny polished gun. The ballot or the bullet for Mohawk or the mullet is a choice between new times and dying days. And the only way to choose is to jump ship from old truths and trust dolphins as we swim through changing ways. The ways of middlemen proves to be just a passing trend. We need no priests to talk to God. No phone to call her. And when you click the link below, i think it fair that you should know that your purchase will make middlemen much poorer..."

i wonder how the sales will pan out. he's not nearly as popular as Radiohead (although i guess NIN are).

Re: Saul Williams, Trent Reznor and Alan Moulder
I got the 'leaked' single not too long ago
it wasn't too bad, so i went ahead and bought the FLAC

although - I will say, I am a bit tired of the countless other bands continually using "The Rise & Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars" in like - an "ironic" or "clever" way...

although - it does show the continued & far-reaching influence of david bowie (aka - the guy who did everything before anyone as far as music goes*)

* ok
...yea a bit of an overstatement, but whatever

Well the nice thing is that, like I'm doing now, you can download the 192 version for free, and if I like it, I'll go back and buy the better quality version. But if he wasn't doing this, I probably wouldn't have come across the album at all...or at least not for a long time. I guess as more people start doing it, this'll become a less effective marketing tool, but for now, I'd bet that it will cause an increase in awareness of the album and sales.

Re: Saul Williams, Trent Reznor and Alan Moulder
um...

I was in the middle of my flac download, and my shitty-ass wireless connection lost contact

and I can't restart my download... can anyone hook me up with a FLAC?
I've already emailed their customer service, but got back a reply saying that they'd "review my case"

if anyone's got a link handy - it'd be much appreciated
I know I could just wait a bit longer... but well - I don't want to

So what's the assessment? I'm only my third song in... and my favorite part so far is the Public Enemy sample...

Re: Saul Williams, Trent Reznor and Alan Moulder
I found out about this via the post on the NIN website.

If this is Trent's take on hip-hop, then hip-hop would do well to take a few notes.

In any case, it is nice to see him produce something outside of the norm.
