So what do we all think of the new animal collective release, Strawberrry Jam?

I can say it is definitely a proper Animal Collective release. By that I mean it has all of the at once elusive and striking characteristics of their sound. But this album may prove that it doesn't mean the songs will be automatically brilliant. I'm not seeing myself loving this one. Maybe more listens will crack this nut.

actually it's hard to tell since every album since "Here comes the indian" have been equally amazing for very different reasons.
this is about as polished as i imagine (and hope) animal collective get. with that said, it's a really jaw-dropping set of incredible tunes. cuckoo has a beautifully severe tension that pulls itself to peices everytime the drums fall, firworks is delirious, reverend green is monumental, peace bone sounds like a game boy that threw up (which is great) before going into some demented merry-go-round, and derek warms my heart up and is a great closer.
