Re: the orb live
I caught The Orb in Los Angeles a couple weeks back.
Basically, I'm disappointed they didn't have a full-on live set. From what I could see, it appeared they had a couple of CD tables and an Apple machine running something in the Ableton live vein, and that was pretty much it. The music wasn't bad but it wasn't something I would call necessarily ambient as I was hoping after being such a fan of their music for such a long time. It was uptempo for the most part but lacked that certain something I had been hoping to see. Me and my friends took off before Alex Patterson and (I'm assuming) Andy Hughes got into it on the stage. I don't know whether it was an argument or a mini-fight, but evidently they were pissed at each other about something. It was a night of different music, when it comes down to it. I don't go out a whole lot anymore so I think it's a little easier for me to appreciate what I heard as opposed to some of my friends who go out all the time. Different night, different setting, but I had different expectations. I'd probably give that Orb show a 6/10. |

....so basically you left even before the show really got started? and you do realize - that they can't really play the songs out as a 'proper band' too... but - what I'm wondering: was their stuff more like "Kompact-y" for lack of a better term, or classic Orb? |

Re: the orb live
It was Patterson and Fehlman who 'got into it' on stage, and by 'got into it' he means 'had a big fight'. Basically (and this is all hearsay from people who went, I missed it) Patterson kept fucking up and acting like a spoiled brat and Fehlman turned down Patterson's part of the mix, further angering the doctor. Basically it was a pretty below average showing. Everybody I talked to who went was somewhat dissapointed.

Re: the orb live
well, they seemed pretty OK last night. no bickering. Fehlmann's DJ set beforehand was pretty good except for record skipping problems. they started off the actual orb set with like 20 minutes of ambient noodling, which was actually pretty nice. once the beats came in it took a little while for them to get going.
they played 'little fluffy clouds' and a bunch of tracks from their kompakt catalog. afterwards patterson started playing recorrds and we left because it was nothing special and we were tired. |

Re: the orb live
I watched the Orb in 92 I think it was. Wasn't the best show I've ever been to but possibly the loudest!
